Doug- do you work for them. or did you just place an order for 10,000 items?

I wonder if it had anything to do with power being out across the northern Midwest for 2-3 days over the early part of the week.  In my area of Michigan, most of our time was being spent making runs for drinking water and food that does not need refrigeration.  So they would have had orders all at once that might have normally been placed over 3-4 days.  And since no one could run a layout (well, except those with emergency batteries or generators for the layout), it left lots of time to make lists of stuff you need.

In any case, congrats to MBK- and hopefully it will induce them to carry even more N scale.

Not completely true though, as if you click on some of the " Out of Stock " items, when you get to the item page, there are 1 or 2 in stock.  For example the JnJ detail parts.

Which makes me wonder if any of the site's inventory totals are accurate.

Some e-commerce inventory software will actually count a single stock number more than once if an item has been listed in more than one product category.

Ah, I see I misunderstood the original post.  I thought they SOLD 10,000 N scale products in one day.  As opposed to listing 10,000 products.

But it is good to know there are 10,000 products available, even if many are out of stock.

Keeping the out of stock items on the website is a good thing for us.  They serve as references when you need to check up on things.  Some etailers remove items that are out of stock.  Makes the website less useful.

That was the big issue I had when they swapped over their website last year. All the old links (which were available though Google and Bing searches) broke. It was a giant loss.

Although all of the MBKs  listed items are shown by default, one of the benefits of the new site template is that a user has the option to select the "Stock Status" by checking either the "In Stock" or "Out of Stock" box.

There is one thing I like about MBK, they do not do preorders. They will not list it until they have received it.

Regarding "out-of-stock"items at MBK - they sure do sell out of some things fast.  I found a new item I wanted several days ago and put it in my cart when there were "3 in stock", only to have them all sold out by the time I finished shopping and went back to my cart.  So, I used the "notify me" option to get an e-mail when that item came back in-stock.  But, I was not watching my e-mail closely enough, because by the time I saw it (about a day after it was sent), that item was out-of-stock again.  So, now I am back on the "notify me" list.

Sometimes I wish that MBK did do pre-orders!

After the website upgrade, have they reinstated the "Advance Product Notification" feature? I really liked that. When a manufacturer announces something that I want, I would just go to MTS, submit the part# and a month or a year later, I'd get an email saying the item was ready for purchase (I believe they would give 24 hours before it was posted to the public).

I sent them an email about that some weeks ago, and the answer came back as "no", but with a hint of "not yet"- I think the company itself would like to have the feature back, but as of the date of that email, it had not been recreated.

HOWEVER, the "email me when in stock" feature for "out of stock" items is operating as always. I know it works- that's how I got my Atlas baggage car.
