Unable to log into TRW using IE 11.
« on: August 06, 2018, 03:10:49 PM »
As of around 2 PM this afternoon, I receive this when I try to log into TRW using IE V11:

Quote
This page can’t be displayed

Turn on TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1, and TLS 1.2 in Advanced settings and try connecting to https://www.therailwire.net  again. If this error persists, it is possible that this site uses an unsupported protocol or cipher suite such as RC4 (link for the details), which is not considered secure. Please contact your site administrator.

Minutes before I had no problem, and I've made no changes to IE's settings. I've now installed Chrome (against my better judgment) and can log in fine.

So for Chrome you might like these extensions:

Unpinterested!
photobucket embed fix
IBA Opt-out (by Google)
Ghostery – Privacy Ad Blocker
Disconnect
CanvasFingerprintBlock
Adblock Plus

Still browsing TRW just fine. Windows 7 and Seamonkey 2.49.1 browser I have been using for years.  Here is the browser info:

User agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/52.0 SeaMonkey/2.49.1

UPDATE:  Just tried the IE 11 (which I very rarely use) included with Windows 7. I see the same error you are seeing. As far as I can tell (looking at updates in Programs and Features/Installed Updates) there were no Windows updates done recently.

Same here, TLS error message when all TLS settings are enabled on the IE11 browser.    Have a screenshot if you want it, also showing TLS enabled.   Happened on two different machines on the same day, both IE11.   Chrome works fine.   No changes applied in either browser.

Well, that's somewhat reassuring to know it might not be me.

The crazy thing is that another site I use regularly won't open in Chrome, so now I must keep both browsers.

I'm seeing a lot of sites that completely misbehave on IE11, including some major ones that just hang for no apparent reason at all.  The one with railwire is unique as it really appears to be certificate-based or something odd; IE is checking for something that's not there.

I had a similar issue with Intuit working with Microsoft Edge, kept giving me irrelevant TLS warnings when everything was set OK, that's trickier because they build the browser right into the software and you can't exit a task and change browsers.

Anymore, you pretty much have to have two browsers due to the inconsistent performance issues.

For some reason a while back I couldn't do my taxes on Chrome. Had to download Firefox.

Knowing how much you dislike the spyware known as Chrome, give Seamonky a try.  I've been using it pretty much trouble free for porobably at least 10 years.  Funny name, but a decent browser.  I found it when Mozilla browser was retired - I wanted something similar to Mozilla and Seamonkey was it.

Interesting...

Like a lot of other people I have been unable to get on the Railwire using IE 11 since early August, but today it's working again.  And I'm guessing it's related to yesterday's server issue; looks like the reinstall may have fixed it.

Same here, we're back.

I'll go with what I tell my clients:  If I have to fully explain this one to you, it will cost you more.
