The long overdue first steps to turn this recent sow's ear from Walthers into a silk purse:

With this or similar being the end goal.

Great work on the RSC-2 and MOW car - a trio of RS-3s are on my list for later this year, as well as new MOW cars.  But not before completing Chetwynd Yard!  The next and final phase of work to finish the yard is now underway with painting of the control panel mounts:

....

Nice - what did you use for the surface of the control panel, and how did you finish it?

I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.

Straight from the factory, as documented here in the Walthers Limited Edition SW 1200 Coming in December thread. Apparently the other paint schemes are passable, the off glance I had of a BNSF orange unit was questionable. Someone in the factory must have been having a bad time with orange paint

Bill:  I've seen a lot of styles of winterization hatches, but never one like on that RSC!

Bill,...very nice, it looks so good I thought it was HO for a minute there..

How did adding street lights to the Kingsbury layout go? I can never get enough of that layout!

Thanks. The Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation has given a thumb up to more Woodland Scenics streetlights for Kingsbury. I'm just waiting for more funding from the city council  :D

I ran and photographed these last weekend, no chance to post till now.  Is that cheating?

My Bachmann K4 and two M1's were weathered for me by @cbroughton67.  Note that the K4 also had its roof and deck painted and the sand dome replaced.  I'm extremely happy with the results.  The iPhone photos really don't do them justice.

Some HOn3 weathering fun...

This is all Doc O'Brien's weathering powders (with a little Testor's Steel on the stamped Murphy boxcar roofs).

The control panels are rendered in Adobe Illustrator and laser engraved on black lamicoid by a local trophy business which also does signs.  I opted for a textured lamicoid as oppose to the more common smooth variety.  Any trophy business which also engraves signs would be able to assist you with this.  I have been pleased with the results.
