:|My monthly Flyer  from Walthers arrived yesterday much  to my surprise the SW 1200 switcher is returning in December, with limited paint schemes, road names, and surprise DCC friendly mech that will accept a TCS 1500 or a Digitrax DN-126 M 2 decoder. Some roads never before offered like IHB and EJ&E.      Nate Goodman (Nato).   :|

Walthers had them on the website a couple weeks ago.

Bump, they are supposed to be out now.
Anyone seen one in person, or bought one, and what's the reaction?

Reaction to what?  This isn't Walthers first release of these.

I am curious about the Milwaukee paint.  The picture on Walthers was hopefully hand painted it was so awful.

I had a chance to see some of the RDG units this weekend.

The one side looked good. The other? The paint looked awfully thick.

Maybe it was just a bad one, but I'm going to inspect before I buy.

Well there's this:

Yeah, I don't see a lot in that image of the Milwaukee units to dispel any of Jason's observations.
The paint looks pretty bad, most noticeably at the base of the silver stacks.
That area can be easily fixed but there are other spots that look pretty rough also.

Well, for one thing, I understand it's a modified mechanism, the electrical path is apparently ? also changed/improved and the paint finish looks marginal in photos. So yea, I'm curious whether I should buy sight unseen and thought asking here might be a good idea. Geez..

Sorry Otto wasn't trying to come off like that.  I'm on my phone so my posts aren't as composed as I try to be usually.

The Walthers version has better wheels.

@wcfn100 Jason, here's some shots of my unit that just arrived:

Not the best photos, but it's what I could do. The paint is definitely thick. There's even some pooling to the left of the herald in the first picture that's hard to photograph. Disappointing, especially with the wait and how much I was looking forward to this. Frustrating to say the least.

It looks like the rear is sitting a lot lower?  Or is that just the photo??

Apologies, my camera was tilted for the second photograph. And of course, when I try to rotate the image it's either too far one way or the other
Should be a little better now, and yes, it does appear to ride lower in the back as well.

The sample unit for one of the EJ&E models on the Walthers' site looks even worse.
The electrical contacts seem to be lifting the front of the shell.
The sideframe on the front truck appears somewhat askew, as well.

Since we all love numbers  :ashat:

This is with the shell firmly seated on the locomotive. Top of sill at the rear 12/32", top of sill front, approximately 14/32". A 1/16" difference or 10" in N scale.
