I have no clue what the advantage of this was..

Here is an N scale model.

Aaaand Here is the Z scale model..

There are a few other similar examples that are a bit more practical..  Supposedly one in the US in D.C.

*EDIT  Ivy City Engine terminal.

Very interesting.  Probably to squeeze as many stalls as possible given the available space?

The number of extra stalls is almost trivial. My suspicion is more throughput: an inbound and an outbound loco can be handled almost simultaneously.

Right.. your only gaining 6-8 stalls.. but the efficiency is lost since you can't use both tables at once.

Ivy City and a few others.. you can handle double the in/out traffic, so that makes sense.. but if you assign a Turntable operator to run the table.. you should be able to manage a pretty steady flow of traffic with one table.

Here is where I first found the turntable.

I started digging to see if Ed's law applied.

Working on detailing Milwaukee Road RSC2 #584. It worked on the Wisconsin Valley line and was often seen in New Lisbon,Wi which I model. It's being painted now but here are a couple of photo showing most of the details.

Bill,...very nice, it looks so good I thought it was HO for a minute there..

How did adding street lights to the Kingsbury layout go? I can never get enough of that layout!

Got inspired by the MOW challenge to follow along with a SP A-50-6 tool car conversion from a Walthers model. I made a couple of oopsies on it (accidentally cut the side doors too tall originally as the model was taller than my prototype) so I don't consider it Challenge-worthy enough, but it will be reasonable enough to sit in the background as rolling scenery. I was working on adding the new bracing to the ends and sides.

Great work on the RSC-2 and MOW car - a trio of RS-3s are on my list for later this year, as well as new MOW cars.  But not before completing Chetwynd Yard!  The next and final phase of work to finish the yard is now underway with painting of the control panel mounts:

The large panel is a schematic identifying tracks, industries and facilities.  The other panels will contain the toggles for throwing the turnouts.  The toggles have been connected to their lead wires and are ready for installation:

Vancouver is hosting the Railway Modellers Meet this weekend which is an opportunity to catch up with some friends from the United States who are in town for the event.  Thursday night was dinner with Max and Cari from Oregon, and last night I welcomed friends Tim Anderson of Ngineering and Dave Mackinnon of Details N Scale for their first visit to the layout.  Dave brought ALCO C-425 No. 810 home after its conversion to sound, now equipped with ESU LokSound Micro Select programmed for the ALCO 251C 16 cylinder engine and K5H horn.  It is pictured here after arrival at Chetwynd on symbol freight VP-04, MU'd with M-630 No. 708 and C-630M No. 701:

I have been wanting to learn how to post a video for some time, so here is a rookie attempt using the cell phone as the power was cut off the train and moved forward.  Hope this works!

Thank you to Dave for another successful sound conversion.  It is now the turn of C-425s Nos. 804 and 812 to undergo their conversion to sound, and they are seen here departing Chetwynd on symbol freight PV-04.  One of Dave's spectacular lumber loads can be seen behind the locomotives:

I also received a large shipment of new 3D printed models from Jeff Briggs this week, but I will save those for a future post.

Got the trackwork done on the three additional modules needed to complete the loop.  Waiting on terminal blocks so I can finish all the wiring.  I dropped one set of feeders so that I could test the trackwork.  Everything works as it should.  :)
