For those of you who don't follow his blog, Lance will be returning to n scale with his next project.  I am looking forward to his take on the scale after being away from it for some time.

Looking forward to it. I haven't followed Lance's blog, but in a quick foray into past posts, he's done great work. He also has a wonderful style documenting progress and, to his credit, the "oops" along the way. I like that. I also liked his interpretation of the LAJ - that's home to me, and he so well captured the flavor.

The main reservation I have about the N layout idea is he's concentrating on urban switching again. I understand the motivation - lots of "operation" in a small space. I'd personally like to see his talented attention to detail executed in an open mainline setting. Not that we don't have examples of that here. Scott. And Ed. :D  :ashat:

He has commented a few times in the blog about his original Monon line in n scale and how (my words) he was not happy with it.  I think he is really in the project sized mode and he obviously does it exceptionally well.

Given that he see N scale as a list of significant challenges and the two things he's taking advantage of are tight radii and cramming a bunch of stuff in small space,  I don't think he'll enjoy this time around either.   :P

I think his Monon layout was excellent in the mainline regard. I for one am glad to see him doing urban industrial in N as I feel that is one aspect that isn’t perhaps as focused on as long sweeping mainline railroading. His choice of locale would be great to see realized by someone with the skill he possesses. Very excited to see him share details.

I also find many of his alleged challenges outdated at best.  We'll see how he makes out.

I'm very much looking forward to seeing what he can do with brick street running.  I'm hoping it's not printed.

To me his results are more like reality than most . Admittedly I haven't seen all his work , but less compression must mean less operation options . He is top shelf to me .

Not to mention his buildings which I believe he uses real photos/textures.

They look awesome in all the publications I have seen so far. But I‘ve always wondered how they would look like in person. Seeing „photos in photos“ gives a very consistent look, but do they still fit once you experience the photo look within a layout built from traditional material?

So this is how the draft picks went? Team HO got Vollmer, Foxx, LIRR and an option on Chris333, for trading Mindheim to Team N ?  :D

I don't really know how they look in person but I expect that roads are single dimension enough to get away with it.  I find few people can create convincing roads that actually look like roads, often due to strange dimensioning, but Lance seems to have found a sweet spot of dedicating enough space to do it right, and the photo textures.

Photos in photos usually look very good, especially when photographed more or less straight-on. But unfortunately photos in person look like photos; the instant you change your viewing angle, even just a little, the illusion is broken. I really admire Lance's modeling, but an over-reliance on photo-textures can be a liability.
