But yet I love everything about this photo! Nasty trackwork is just plain cool! ;)

The scenery says it isn't, but the track looks like the MILW mainline in the Cascades and Puget Sound region just before the end.  Somebody, quite a while back, posted pictures from one of the small bridges in eastern Washington.  The last train east derailed there, and the derailed cars were shoved aside so the rest of the train could continue.  The Google Maps images showed that they were still there.  Even the scrap metal thieves didn't want them!

On all my previous layouts my trackwork and electrical feeds were so atrocious the guys who ran it called them "The Milwaukee Road". Uneven roadbed, dead spots, out of gauge places. Funny but true.

The picture depresses me in the same way as when I drive over humps in the road where tracks used to be.

Anyway, we can't model this stuff or at least operate over it because of the limited tolerance our models have for less-than-perfect track. It is amazing how tolerant 1:1 can be, as those videos attest.

Plus, I believe that the trackwork in all the above photos and videos look even worse than it is due to telephoto lenses and/or zoom. I'm not saying it's not bad, just magnified significantly by this. This effect is unbelievable at times. Have you seen any of those crazy aircraft landing videos, where the runway look like a roller-coaster and the plane looks like it's totally sideways....or looks like it takes off completely vertical? :scared: That said, those trains are definitely rockin' :o

Now that is railroading! Good pick Richie.  :D A little trivia for a possible photographic time frame, 110A was scrapped in December 1981.

Haven't done much on the layout lately other than clean track, but here's a quick shot, a small switch job in the early autumn of1984, Kansas City, MO

Needs dullcote  :)

Also have been plugging away at my MILW GP-20 build, link to thread for those interested.

Perhaps we can get a Milwaukee theme going this week  :D

Thanks for looking!

a couple of weeks ago, I received a notice that Kato had offered the detail parts, that had adorned their 'Kobo Shops' custom UP Excursion E units, separately, in their online store...
since I'm having little hope of ever finding some of the excellent Sunrise Enterprises metal castings of the iconic snowshields, I went ahead and ordered two of them (enough for an A-B-B-A set).
I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the parts (I believe they are 3D printed), although two of the snowshields arrived with one of their support brackets broken...they were easy enough to repair with strip styrene. The paint is perfectly matched to the Harbor Mist Gray on the most recent release of the Kato UP E units...I bought the parts, solely for the snowshields since I model the year 1957, but also supplied is the roof mounted horns with bracket, the non-working ditch light castings with MU hoses, a non-working rotary beacon to fill one horn hole on the cab roof, and a plug to fill the other hole...of special note is a clear casting of the twin Pyle headlight lens to replace the large single lens in the Kato E unit. although I can't use it on the E unit, I can arrange the lens vertically and use them on an ATSF freight F set. I would really love to see this part available separately.

Bruce -

Although I rolled my own, I'd really like to be able to get some of those snow shields - where are they hidden?  Unless my tired old eyes are deceiving me, I can't find 'em....
TIA!

I am not sure they're still available...I ordered these about 4 weeks ago (I was alerted to them by KatoUSA's Facebook post...
I tried to order 2 more sets about a week ago and could no longer find them listed under 'online store' (where I had originally seen them)
