Are the GEVO'S strictly pre order from the manufacturer or will they be offered for pre order at online hobby shops like BLW, N Scale Supply, etc?

They have select retailers carrying their product line, but most I've seen are at the same price as the manufacturer.  My LHS decided not to carry them.

The issue I am told is a high minimum order....

Yes they do, at the same discount listed on Scaletrains website

D'oh! I guess the discount price is the real MSRP then?

(never mind)

No, the KCS is a ES44 I think, the radiator is different.

You were in an early spending-coma state.  Understandable.

The NS unit looks fantastic, can't wait to get these.

Yeah, I should have been more clear.  NS is the only Scale Trains unit.  KCS is Fox Valley, and BNSF is Kato.

I basically had to arrange them in that order.  The Kato ES44 just looks so naked of detail sitting next to the Scale Trains Gevo!

I would say it's a pretty linear progression too with FVM's added detail over Katos', going one more full notch with Scale Train's added details over FVMs'.
You can tell in that third photo,  the NS handrails are about 60% as thick as the KCS.  Yellow step lines are more crisp/accurately applied too.  And of course all etched parts already installed vs requiring user installation.

Very curious as to the speed range of the Tier 4 - closer to Kato or FVM speeds.

And of course I run DCC, so that shouldn't be an issue.  Unless it runs slower than either, like Atlas seems to.  Then the whole layout has to be programmed for the slower loco.

Was happy to get rid of my last Atlas road engines for that reason.  I DO have a couple I use only for switching and am very happy with them...

Personally (thinking about future releases that might appeal to me), I would prefer loco speeds more in the "scale" range. I can "fix" the Kato locos in my fleet with DCC.
