In the video Kato posted, the vintage film of the train looks to be 11 cars long. The set will only be 9 cars long. Anyone catch which two cars are not included or were cut to make the set? Or which of the cars from the set would be appropriate to duplicate to get to 11 cars? For example when they released the COLA, if you wanted a longer train, the most appropriate cars to add were more Pacific sleepers.

Off the top of my head I think there was a cafe car and some sleepers, but don't quote me on that.

Should the air intake grilles be silver, or not?

Silver.  When they simplified the paint scheme by dropping the maroon band, it appears they were painted black but the paint frequently flaked off.

There's no casting lines on the model's nose? oooooooo.....

Unless some Kato employee sands or scrapes those off from each shell (before painting), they will still be there. Kato can create some amazing molds but some things are just impossible to do.  They could probably totally redo the molds and maybe try to put the mold partying line in a slightly different spot, but it will most likely still be somewhere around the nose area.

Watching thew video of the set the only thing that rally jumps out at me is the spacing between the locomotives-Yuuuuge/  This I'm quite sure has been discussed extensively as are the solutions, but it is the first time I really noticed it.

When was the last time Plano came out with a new etching for N scale?  Same goes for Gold Medal Models.
In this day and age we might get more traction with some enterprising individual like @Lemosteam , right John?

Folks, the container containing these arrived in Schaumburg this past week, and they will probably be shipping to dealers early this week. Paul from Kato dropped off a set at the Chicago area (Naperville) RPM meet this past weekend for us to run on the Modutrak layout, and almost all of us took turns running it around the layout. Bill Denton and I took some videos and will post as soon as they are edited. In addition, I popped the shell off of the observation car, and the B unit to see what available space there was for decoders & speakers (function decoder for obs-the red light on the back was a mars light, {on the real thing it was red when running forward, and white for reverse moves-train had to back from Tacoma to Seattle}, and Loksound for locos). Will post these when I dig out my camera.

Photo of obs interior did not come out. You can see the nuclear glow from the light pipes for the "smoker lights" in the back. These are simply clear plastic of which all but the very tip needs to be made opaque (layer of silver, followed by a coat of black so that only the VERY tip allows light to escape. Looks light it should be very easy to do.
