Weekend Update 5/7/17

Got my decals in the mail on Friday so I was able to finish the first 12 flats for the Royal American Shows carnival train.  With the 9 sleepers that I have, it makes a good sized 21 car train.  I still have some other vehicles to add, so I will probably do 3-4 more flats eventually.

That looks really nice.  Could you give us a similar pic of the BNSF model?  FVM has had a tough time in the past with the color of the striping IMO

Did you add the PTC antenna array? Or did come with one?...

As for the BNSF SD70ACE  .. the paint is the closet match for BNSF I have seen yet... put it next to a Kato and the FVM blows it away....

As for the BNSF SD70ACE  .. the paint is the closet match for BNSF I have seen yet... put it next to a Kato and the FVM blows it away....

I did indeed add the PTC array to be faithful to the prototype.  I bought a bunch of them last time I ordered parts from FVM and have equipped all my UP FVMs with them.

I'm working on the BNSF now, pic probably next week.  I'll probably do a couple to show all the grabs.

The one (very minor) criticism I have is we need a diagram to know where to put the various grabs.  I did the UPs and then, when on the first BNSF, found where those leftover grabs and wipers were supposed to go.  I had printed out some line drawings to indicate grab position - not all are dimpled - and missed a mid body long grab and the rear window wipers.  Easy fix, though.

Have to do some research to see if BNSF uses the same PTC array on the ACes - the line drawings suggest they do, but I want pictures...

Well, MT was supposed to announce this already (on Friday), maybe the Z-scale discontinuation rumor got them sidetracked.  My phone rang on Wednesday while ordering lunch.  It came up as a number from Oregon, and not knowing anyone in Oregon, I let it go to voicemail.  Walking to my truck, the phone beeped saying a voicemail had been left.  I listened to it and it was Sara from Micro Trains, stating that the ‘Lucky Clover Contest’ had ended and I had won first prize !  It consisted of the 4 pack of 2-bay covered hoppers for Superior Well Services and a $100 Micro Trains gift certificate.  I entered thru the mail-in option and figured what the hell, cost me 47 cents for the postage to send it in.  Never thought my entry would get drawn much less first prize !  Super excited, though it now means that I probably won't be winning the lottery anytime soon, seeing I've burned up a ton of luck winning the ‘Lucky Clover Contest’.

I had been looking at them since their release but always backed off with the price.  Never had the funds when I seen them somewhere.  I didn't act when they were initially released and the second hand market didn't help the price issue.

Trainworx MILW LO 97837   Factory paint and I mildly weathered with oils and chalks. Swapped couplers for the MTL "more to scale" ones.

Working on ATSF siding signs from SUNRISE for Wenatchee. Line was GN/BN then BNSF, but
we can bend history a bit?
