Uh oh.  I need some of these.  Is there a way to body-mount couplers on these?

Well, give or take a sill.  But definitely fills a need for the "standard" 6 window RPO.  Looks like it will work for lots of roads.

Interesting news! (didn't see this one coming!)...
That RPO isn't quite the exact match to an ATSF 60' heavyweight, but it sure looks closer than anything released previously (Gotta get rid of those 6 axle trucks, add a channel sill, modify the doors, and add the large steps)

Thanks for the updates Bryan. Any word on the next batch of S-2's.  Looks like I see the Q model in the background of one of your pics.

Since we are talking about Atlas and not Concor the answer defaults to "YES!!!  Remember... these have first been released some time back in O scale.  Just hate that they shortened the CNJ observation car... just doesn't look right.

The mail cars have application on a number of roads: Atlantic Coast Line 9 - 12 (9, 10 low arched roof, 11, 12 high arched roof), Baltimore & Ohio 40 - 48, Delaware Lackawanna & Western 1814 and 1817, Gulf Mobile & Ohio 43 - 46 (modernized in the late 40s with altered windows; ex-Alton, nee-Chicago & Alton), Louisville & Nashville 1106 - 1114, Southern Railway 30 - 49 (rebuilt with deeper letterboard by adding strip of steel below letterboard to match Pullman car letterboards).  The baggage is another story.  Because of the spacing of the doors and the matched size of the doors it does not match any known prototype aside from CNW.  The combine and coach are also pretty much CNW though the line did sell a number of coaches to Nacionales de Mexico when they were retired from suburban service, where they saw further use.

Now to go do some more editing at the N-scale Varnish User's Guide...

The DL&W (if produced or scratched) cars could be used in Cleveland by the NKP

Bruce: beautiful work.  Mine are half done- we moved last year and my projects are all still in boxes.  Hopefully I can finish them off to look as good as yours do.

Bryan Bussey: Thank you for the photos and updates from Atlas- obviously giving us a lot to talk about.

Unfortunately, all my overnight research agrees with Jerry's conclusion.  I can find baggage cars with roughly the same spacing and different door sizes, and I can find some with even doors but much wider spacing.

I thought I had found something perfect in a diagram book- looking at the side view or floorplan appeared just about right, but although the spacing was 17' and the doors drawn the same size (around 5' 6" and 4 windows), the dimensions entered on the diagram showed one door at 7' and the other at 4'2".  (GMO cars leased to CEI during WWII)

Although the doors on the model are too close together for cars I want to model (measuring against a photo, I approximate it as 17'- if someone has a drawing of the car, please let me know what the actual dimension is), GTW did have some 60' cars with matched doors (I would guess about 24' between doors), or C&EI 240-245 (ex LV cars) with doors spaced 24'6" apart.  I am sure there are a number of other discrepancies.  I only have diagrams for the C&EI cars, so make no assertion on details.  Atlas O scale did the car in GTW paint, and I would would probably run that car as is if they do the GTW scheme in N scale- I certainly have others in my fleet that are not near as close.  Also strikes me that it will be simple enough to model some other cars by enlarging one of the doors- and there are several baggage door options available nowadays as parts.

Yeah.  Sigh . . . order already placed for an assorted dozen . . .

At least I managed to quell the urge to buy a UP Turbine that I have no use for.  Even though it is really unique, excellent . . . [self-control vacillating]. :D

Bryan,

Since meeting you was one of the highlights of the show for me , please include the interesting tank car and the low side gondola. Two of the more unique new models at the show. Don't forget that I would like a few of each !!

Quickie selfie-pic from behind the table. 8k acid tank and LSGs. Will post a better pic later.

I think the coal gons were there at FVM. Ditto for the S2 at Atlas. It's tough to get out during the show to see other booths, especially if in the other buildings. I scrambled this morning in the pre-hour today to get as many pics as possible. Hopefully other Railwire members attending will add their pics.

I have absolutely no need for those new Atlas passenger cars but they looks so nice...and the price is really good compared to a lot of new tooling.  Wow.  Good on Atlas for bringing those out!  I should think those are just the thing for T-Trak curves!

Just think if Bachmann re-did their 60' cars. They would be just as horrible, but have knuckle couplers. And could be your for only $105.99 each.
