This is beautiful.  Odd though it may be, my eye is immediately drawn the little leaf spring detail in the lower right front corner of the engine in one of your photos.   I need to make some of those myself.  How did you you do that?

I feel I'm being given too much credit for this locomotive. Aside from the boiler, which is brass tube, everything else so far is an etch that someone else designed. The harder part will be figuring out how to make it run and then making the dome, chimney, and other fittings.

As for the springs, if your are behind the wheels I would cut them to shape from sheet and not worry about the detail on the surface. If they go above the wheels where they are visible I'd actually be tempted to do the same thing, that's what I did on my B15 build. I need to get back to that, along with so many other projects. You can see here that there are representations of springs above the front axle and below the second and third axles. However, all three springs are fairly well obscured by the wheels so the lack of detail isn't a problem.

Additionally Max, here is a view of the spring through the wheel. Close up and square on you can see the spring detail, but once it's painted and assembled it will be hard to see.

Well, I completed my third week of work at my new employer, where I am on the team that is restoring 16 PCC cars. It so happens the next one to go out the door will be wearing the same paint scheme!  (Ours is a much better rendering, of course!     )

Thank you for the info.  In my case, the springs will be above the wheels in plain sight, so I need to make them at least somewhat detailed.  An etch would work.  I was even considering a bunch of really thin strips of brass laminated together like a real leaf spring.  Brass strip comes in .001" and .003" thicknesses, among others.  .003" would represent a 1/2" thick leaf, which ain't bad.

Can we ask where this employer is?  My guess would be MUNI in San Fracisco, who still has a stash of PCCs behind their shop.  Won't yet say how I know (folks will have to wait a bit long on that one) but MUNI has an extensive fleet of restored PCCs in various paint schemes that once adored cars.  Beautiful cars all.

Car 1060 (the one shown, painted for Philadelphia) is the 3rd car to be completed. We'll also be painting cars in the schemes of Pittsburgh, Boston, a more traditional SEPTA scheme, and Baltimore. We recently delivered one painted for Kansas City.

We reviewed some photos of Baltimore PCC cars online, but we are struggling a bit to identify an appropriate shade of gray. For example, the two images below of # 7407 were taken on the same night, but the lighting is different enough to cause doubt...
