Is CSX big enough to account for waiving $118 million in post retirement benefits and awards?

With the decline in coal traffic, look for him to rationalize a lot of assets, labor, motive power, rolling stock and trackage. And local service (first mile/last mile) will be challenged making life difficult for shippers. Glad my company's rail service at plants has minimal exposure to CSX.

Not mentioned would be any reaction by NS to what Hunter does given the moves they made earlier to fend off his grab.

So in the next 2-3 years who does he get to merge with?. Can't believe he gave up 118 million without assurances he can do a merger from the board. That's where he'll make up for giving up  $118,000,000.00, WOW, lots of zeroes. He can't do enough cost cutting (jobs) to make up his lost money.

Well, that's the thing. CSX did this sort of crap in the '80s, pretty much dismantling 40-50% of the "redundancies", leaving hundreds of shippers and whole regions without service. Of course Hunter will find more to cut, but it will be a push, and IMO leave CSX... frankly... non-viable, with UP and/or BNSF eventually slicing up the carcass.

But maybe that's the objective. :|

The goal is to boost the share value. Period. When he's done, CSX will be a top performer on paper.

Bad new for CSX.  Lately coal has been picking up for export in Baltimore which is a good thing.  You should here what the many CSX employees had to say about this.  None of it good.  Man is a cancer to any railroad.
