Here's a finished model in HDA.  IMHO if you take the time to add the grabs and stirrups nothing commercially available can touch what is possible with this material.

Back to the paint shop with you.  WM hoppers were black in the 20s and 30s, but before the round Herald was introduced.   The Micro Trains car done in the 80s is wrong.  You need oxide red.

Here in Appalachia such shiny black parking lots aren't uncommon in  the summer.  Folks around here use some type of liquid sealant on their asphalt, and for a week or so after it dries the lot looks like that.

I agree that, for California, it looks a little odd.

Looks great! Have you given thought to filling in those stake pocket holes? I ended up using CA. Also, are you going to cut those decals between the wood boards?

The pocket holes are filled as much as they aren't see-thru. I might try slicing the keystone decal, but leave the rest  :scared:

Just glad I got a "roller" after what 3-4-5 years?

Breakin' balls?   :D  I'm sure whenever I try to build my kit it won't look half as good as Chris'.  I'll be lucky if it resembles a gondola at all.

What else could you turn it into?

It could easily be kitbashed into a pile of bent brass parts with solder blobs in my workshop trashcan.   :D

i have built a couple of them fore the trash can.  Not Traincat stuff.  His products well engineered with great insrtuction delivery was the only problem.

I've done some experimenting with setts made from DAS clay.

I had grand plans this weekend to accomplish much on both of my N scale layouts but in reality ended up doing little more than running a few trains.  I did lightly weather a refrigerator car and paint some structure parts, but that's it.  Recovery from my 22 November brain surgery is a winding road that sometimes doubles back on itself...  I'm amazed at how overwhelming the fatigue from this is.  You'd think quietly working in my workshop wouldn't require a lot of energy...but apparently it does!  I'm also still fighting the nausea at times, plus withdrawal from all the medications they had me on before the surgery.  Nevertheless it's still therapeutic to have my "fortress of trains" to retire to when I'm feeling well enough.

Dave--DON'T push it. I've not had brain surgery but I've had 3 cancer surgeries since 2011, 2 this year. The trains can wait, they will be there. Nothing is more important than family, but I truly do understand the "fortress of trains". Slow down please.
