N scale Super Turbine

Well this snuck up on me . To bad the didn't make number 1 or 2 before mods . I already have a brass #3 . I think the others were 1960 and later .

Well that what happens when the topic doesn't say Turbine , or something like that . Scaletrains though it's the company's name , is also a common used phrase . I saw that thread a week ago or so but never opened it . I think the company should change its name .

Apparently it was a press description of just the first GTEL4500, the double-ended demo unit. While it was in UP paint as #50 from 7/1949 to 4/1951, it belonged to GE, and there was a one-year gap between its return to GE and UP receiving the first production unit, #51. IIRC it demoed on Eastern roads in a dark green, probably a ploy to get Pennsy interested.

I sent ScaleTrains an eMail stating I wanted unit #1 in N . They already did it in HO and it is the only one that is sold out . The first 3 units got on UP property before 1960 and as such saw the end of regular steam assignments .

Scroll down to 1958-1961 - shows the years the Super Turbines 1-30 were delivered . One of the pre 1960 identifiers for diesels and turbines is there in no " Union Pacific " name on the nose .

  Alco-GE Turbine 50 tested on the NKP and PRR.
  not sure where it spent most of its time ?
  as built it didn't have the Top Headlite Barrel,that was added
  after going to U.P.
  also on U.P. the rear Cab was blocked off and used for extra
  Fuel capacity.
  it is believed the running gear ended up under one of the Veranda
  units of the second order from U.P.
