I Need an N Scale Switcher that is DCC-Ready (NOT Atlas S2 - I Have One)

After much tribulation, I'm selling my non DCC ready Atlas RS3 locos. Besides Atlas and Bachmann S2 locos, who makes a DCC ready switcher? I know Micro-Trains has their SW1500, but try to find an undecorated one.

Besides, isn't the DCC install in the SW1500 a pain? I'm so confused...

Kato NW2? Bachmann 44T or 70T? Bachmann NW2? Bachmann make a RS3 as well. All the Bachmann engines come with DCC installed, but they don't come undecorated. There's the Atlas VO-1000 as well and the Arnold SW1. Lots of switchers around actually.

The Kato NW2 is DCC ready. It was quite easy to do. Only thing that must be kept in mind is that the original motor leads from the stock light-board must be removed and put onto the decoder. but the whole thing was easy enough to where I was able to do the process at a train show, with only my Swiss Army knife.

I refuse to buy anything made by Bachmann.

The Kato NW2 I had would disassemble (trucks and drive shafts fell off) when I took the shell off. Not a nice surprise. I had to send it off to get it to run again.

I just looked at the Arnold SW1. Jeez, what an UGLY loco.

Oops... forgot about the VO1000. I see L&N had some (a big plus), but I can't find L&N yellow nose decals... deal killer:

Why? I've been really happy with the two 44 tonners I have and the S4 I just got seems pretty good too.

Microscale do the dark grey lining on the edge of the yellow, but it looks like the rest of it needs to be masked and painted.

Kiz,..just an FYI, I have a couple of each of these locos, and they are great runners. In fact, the VO-1000 gets my vote for best running n scale loco, and the SW1 gets my vote for second.  L&N had both. Their SW1s were painted black, so no masking!...Just because it's ugly to you, should be no reason to ignore these awesome locos..Especially since your prototype had some......Switchers were not known for being pretty..

Edit..The SW1 does not come undec. Also, L&N re-engined their VO-1000s with EMD engines...Look at the grey loco in your link, notice the 2 EMD style stacks and EMD SW-type long hood...

Oh noooooo. It's too different from the Atlas model. I'll have to settle for a GP7 (like Dee guessed) to do my switching.

Kiz, what year(s) are you modeling? It was built as a normal VO-1000, and did wear black too..No masking!

I was going to model 1966 (Southern Railway/L&N interchange), but I found out half of my L&N diesel decals were for 1970+, so I'm modeling 1970 (fortunately, the more modern L&N paint scheme is easier to paint on the yellow low hood).

Walther (Life Like) RS2s are very easy to convert to DCC with drop-in decoder.
Atlas' VO1000 can be found DCC-equipped

I still can't get past the comment about the Arnold SW1 being ugly. Are you sure you're referring to the correct loco?? :?

Yeah, that would also make SW-9 and SW-1200 ugly, wouldn't it?  Personally I think SW-1 is cuter than NW2 and S2.
