Yeah... on car trips out of California, Dad always used to make sure there was space to bring back a case or two of Coors for himself and his poker buddies. Which was a feat, as there were five kids. Once I became "of age", I was (and still am) puzzled as to what the big deal was. All I can figure was the mystique of local unavailability.

Went To Caboose Hobby, was not that impress. Not much for N scale locomotives. Did buy two out of print books I been looking for. Scale Model Supply in ST Paul,MN has a much larger inventory to me. went to the Colorado Railroad Museum , was worth the trip. Also went to Moffat Tunnel east portal...just miss the Amtrack going west. Sat for 4 hours, never saw another train, but it was interesting. Found quite a few micro breweries thou.

I noticed when I was at Caboose last month their rolling stock inventory was way low (by their standards, of course).  Both HO and N, as I was looking for a few HO items for my dad (and found none of them).  OTOH, if you need parts, books, scenery, or anything narrow gauge, it's hard to beat.  Being an hour away from Caboose (depending on traffic) doesn't suck!

I've had a thing for Colorado narrow gauge since 1988 when I rode the Durango & Silverton and every time I go to Caboose I find myself in that back corner with all the Blackstone D&RGW and RGS stuff drooling and dreaming.

Scheduled for September is Durango and Silverton, second time, then Charma and Toltec and Royal Gorge.  Will also be a few days in Central City/ Boulder area.  Considering time at the museum but would welcome lists for other worthwhile stops.  Will be all over the mountain areas for about three weeks total.

Thanks.  That one I've been through several times, stayed in Georgetown three times, rode the loop once two years ago.   The Westside Lumber Shay as I recall.  It is quite nice and is right on 70.  From Pittsburgh it's a natural route when travelling west (a dozen+ times over  the years) and I've never been able to just drive by without stopping in Georgetown and Silver Plume.  This year we'll do Central City region, staying in Boulder for a few nights, and I was thinking of a day for the museum at Golden if it's worth it.  I know there are some other RR related sites in the area (Moffat Tunnel?) but haven't investigated too much yet.  Will also be over around Ouray and Durango for a few days and was remembering something around Ridgeway that was RR related.  Don't know if that would be worth some time.  Those are the kinds of things I'm talking about that it would be a shame to miss if I'm nearby anyway.

Heading to Denver and Colorado Springs to visit family and get my Rocky Mountain fix again next week. Should be fun!
A stop at Caboose will be mandatory. But, I vaguely recall a discussion here, not too terribly long ago, about a place or hobby shop (?) in the area (Lakewood, Arvada?) that supposedly has piles of used, hard to find N scale stuff and no internet presence. Supposedly, one just needs to visit a wade through the stuff. A search here didn't turn up anything; Am I losing it and making things up??
