That could easily be the best new switcher for someone to do.  If for no other reason it would get Dave S. to work on his layout again. I honestly would have put money on FMV doing it after the Hiawatha, but all we got was modern crap, HO junk and a waste of eastern prototypes. 

Since Atlas is going to make the S1, and I can fashion a TR-2 from Kato parts if I want,  the only real switcher that could get my attention is an EMC SC.



The CGW used one to operate the Cedar Falls branch which was just a few miles down the track from Waterloo.

But I agree, would be nice to have an upgraded and/or earlier and/or 10-44 version, and if Fox Valley wants to take in on, I am all for it.  Just hope they remember the following words while cranking out 17 different MILW paint schemes and versions, those words are: "Zebra Stripes." 

And if there is a resin caster or RP designer looking for something to do, how about the odd duck in the FM switcher family:


I think the 12-44TS had a slightly longer (several inches) wheelbase than the H16-44, but I'd be happy with one that fit over the Atlas chassis.

I could go for an SC as well, but would really get excited over an FM H20-44; could use several, and not just for switching....

AFAIK, until the merger in '68.  The CGW had three SC's.  Two didn't make it to see the other side of the merger and one ended up getting traded in on an SD-45 order.

Unless I read it wrong, I thought Atlas made it pretty clear that an S1 would be down the road.

Their First HO locomotive was a UP Big Blow Turbine... It will be interesting to see what they have planned for N...

Smaller switchers could be an advantage for modelers that have large industries to switch since such industries usually bought smaller switchers.  Units such as ALCO S1/S3s and BLW VO660s were rather common back in the day, though later on they were replaced by larger switchers.

Don't know about a kit but Island Models use to offer a resin casting of the SW1001.

As for the FM H20-44s you have to remember that they were not switchers in the same class as the others already mentioned, they were very large road units, though some survived way after FM's demise working heavy industry.  They were FM's first high-horsepower road units.

But the H16-44s are not in the same class either.  They are road switchers not yard switchers.  Isn't these available from Bachmann?
