I haven't been super active in model railroading of late, but my experimenting with Z has "stuck" and my layout is still making slow but sure progress.

This isn't much about the progress really. I have carved the foam into very basic forms, and added the backdrop.  Also the bridge is new, acting as a stand-in for now until more prototypical bridges can be built.   So this is mostly just a staged pic showing the new ACe, but since I hadn't posted in a while I figured why not.

Doug, do you happen to have decoder inside the ACe yet?  I've been trying to find if the headlights are brighter on DCC than they are with DC.  Even at a scale 60mph on DC, the headlights look like they're still off. :/

I don't yet.   I was in such a hurry to order it when the second wave became available I didn't take the time to order the decoder too.   I have some things on eBay that I'm hoping will yield enough cash to order the decoder this weekend.

Some have reported that the CSX ACe's were brighter, but I'm not sure we have enough evidence of that to make it global fact yet.   Anyway, I'm definitely interested in all this myself so if I get more info I'll let you know.

No modeling this weekend, visiting grandkids in Denver. Got to ride the new rail line to DEN (Denver International) that just opened. Beautifully designed station canopy at the airport, which unfortunately stops short of where passengers get off. Windy and uncomfortable in May; wonder what it will feel like in January

The transformer was a cheap load I picked up from the seller savonart on eBay. For the price they don't look too bad. Not great, but not horrible either.

The old Trix transformer wasn't "great" either, but, as you said, not horrible.  I still have one somewhere, but no idea where.
