Weekend Update 2/21/16

OK, finished her up.

OK, so I didn't have Lionel as a kid.  I just had to put a Preiser elephant in it.   At least one thing my research confirmed is that in the year I'm picking for my local man's ownership of Cole (1917), he advertised 11 elephants.  So he had to have an elephant car.

Probably the only different thing I did was on the decals.  They are reverse printed red-on-white laser decal paper, as printing white is relatively impossible.   I just messed around with fonts and sizes and reverse colors until it looked right.



This kit was just a ton of fun to build.  The micro-plywood pieces are really well done.  I added etched ladders, wire grabs.  It seemed like the car was oversized in height until I tried to fit that elephant in it!

The dual doors are just press-fitted on, and can be repositioned.   The car itself appears to be pretty accurate from the photos I've seen.

Made incremental progress toward lettering a Colorado Midland Palace Stock Car.

Then did some work on the miners' cabins for Aspen on the Midland:

25 bones later after a trip to Home Depot, which we didn't have in Southern Oklahoma, we
are raised up. Layout previously sat on covered boxes in Wyoming and Oklahoma. It's up
and going to paint benchwork black and put sliders on the legs.

Waking at 0300 hrs and unable to fall back asleep the Puddington Valley mill construction crew got to work.... The wet end buildings are almost complete with just a roof and final joining and placement to go.... the digester building now has its white water tanks and pulp tanks positioned and the digester stack is now painted, detailed and rusted....





Looking at these buildings from ground level with Gunderson chip cars as a reference it's safe to say "that's one big sucka" of a mill complex... so far!

Waiting to finish the steps before the epoxy floor paint goes on. Then its on to painting accents. After that, bench work!

Great pickup on the CS Kit i wish i had saw it so many good things in that kit. Layout is looking SEXY!!!

If you are feeling up to the trip you should bring your son into the store and show him the layout. I will be in the next 3 saturdays for sure after that who knows about golf season.

Are you going to run wires on all those high tension towers? If so, better get the stretchy kind of HO telephone wire, since the wires might be in the way of GHA.
