Continuing with the effort to pre build structures for the Domtar Containerboard Mill module I wanted to add a small; re-purposed locomotive facility for the mill engines (the mill has a RS3 and a 44 tonner in Domtar livery - actual copies of prototype Domtar engines no less) like the one that was at the old Red Rock mill (It was an old, unused power house, converted into a engine bay in their case.) I also wanted to make one and do so as a "no new parts challenge" structure.

A friend of mine like this challenge; he sets out to builds a specific structure using only what's in his parts inventory, old used kits and modelling supplies such as brick paper or styrene..... So; I thought I could try the same.....

Using parts from an old Bachmann diesel servicing facility (that I've stolen parts from for about 8 years), the remains of a European double track engine shed kit that was missing parts (like the end wall....) DPM generic wall pieces, a UK supplied brick stock paper, various castings and parts, styrene, Paper Creek metal roofing and complete, total and somewhat optimistic vision I set out to build a single stall engine servicing facility that would have a second track under a canopy...

Craftsman quality is it NOT!  It is, however, unique and clearly a re-purposed building of some description. It will certainly be a unique locomotive servicing facility at a mill that was begun in the 30's and has been renovated and added on to ever since....

Next..... hmmm.... maybe a re-work of the old digester building......

Started working through my backlog of weathering projects.

First, Micro Trains H31 hoppers (with black play sand coal loads, idea by @davefoxx):

The H30s began showing up around 1940...  They were built through '51, and many were rebuilt into other H30 variants.  Some lasted until Conrail.

The H32 were delivered in 1948.  Again, some lasted into early Conrail.

That's great news . My era is 1949 so I can have a few of these interesting cars on my Milwaukee road.

For your era, the red ones with the circle keystone are correct.  By my era (1956) many had been repainted gray, and some had shadow keystones.

Everything is strip styrene, except for the Counter-weight pulleys.  These were found at a novelty store.

This is probably the oddest kit I've started in quite some time.   Looking around for circus cars and found this one - a REAL elephant car, not a repainted steel stock car - and a wood craftsman kit to boot (laser-cut micro plywood direct from Chuck Deterich (circus@verizon.net).

It's not done, but this has been more fun to build than any kit in quite some time, really enjoyed it.  Nothing looks like a wood car more than wood.  I've added some brass ladders and stirrups, and have a couple elephants coming.  Doors and final details are not on yet.   I'm going to 'reverse print' the Cole Brothers World Toured Shows on the letterboards with my own custom decals.



He's got a regular circus stock car coming too, but hasn't got a firm date yet.

this one is Dee's Feed and Seed.  basic paint and some details.  have to install lights and weather it up a bit.  its not as green as it looks.



also got my very old  atlas VO1000 with the Lenz decoder that would not take any changes, no have DZ126 decoders.  they run a whole lot better
