I've been joking that I need to get myself a new domain name: PennCentral1970Something.com with all the PC stuff I've been doing lately.

I'm not sure how many active RS1's are still out there, but one that you can find is on the Catskill Mountain Railroad at Kingston, NY, and it is pulling Polar Express runs on a daily basis.   It is their prime power out of Kingston.  NYC did run RS1's there historically.

It's got a Hancock air whistle on it, so it's pretty unique.

Looks to me like there's only about five operational ones left if you look at YouTube.

Nice Ed. I'm with ya on the PC. Back in the 70's I despised it and rarely trained my camera towards anything black unless it was an oddball. Now I find myself with a growing selection of PC rolling stock and have a real soft spot for it.

The Allentown and Auburn, where the CRHS currently has its equipment, is working on acquiring one too. I doubt I can convince them to put the mating worms on it though.

That's what I thought, too, but it's an illusion. What you're seeing is only the ties that were replaced when they rehabbed the line. If you look closely, there are ties in between spaced normally, but partially hidden under the dirt.

Great sound quality on that video. The clatter and burble of the 539T takes me back to summer days of my teen years, wasted spent around Santa Fe yards watching S-2s and S-4s shuffle cars around.

RS-1 is one my my most favorite locos. LIRR had a good roster of them. That sound is still in my mind, coming up grade on the PW Branch to Bayside.
 Think there's still an active unit in Vermont, running on a tourist line. Green Mountain RR?

Now that you mention it, that Alco sound is distinctive. I'm old enough to I remember the sound of S-2's rattling around the Vancouver waterfront.  Blap-blap-blap... I must be getting old...

I'm in the same boat...er...train. That dang white on black PC scheme keeps beckoning. The PC green too. I mean, I will probably never abandon the CGW/C&NW or the Milwaukee Road but...

Back in the 70s, many of the railnuts I knew despised PC and Chessie. Cheesy System and Puke Green PC.

Of course now I fondly remember these paint schemes ...
