40' end door boxcar.... um....?

Maybe I've been living under a rock for a while but it occurs to me that no one makes a 40' double door / end door boxcar. These were quite common on the CPR where no fewer than two series of cars (291500 - 291899 - built by CC&F with improved dreadnaught end and a Camel end door arrangement & 295920 - 296269 built by CC&F in 1951 with improved dreadnaught end, raised panel roof and a Camel end door arrangement, and other series I've seen) They were originally intended for automobiles but found consistent employment for lumber and wood products. They lasted into the late 1970's on the CPR.

I have to imagine that other railways had these..... has anyone done a model of these or a similar car or is this an opportunity for a company to introduce... (Hey Joe..... )

I've been lobbying IMRC to do a 40' double door for a while.

The undecorated versions of the under remarked Walthers 50 single sheathed 50 ft Auto Box included both fixed and door "A" ends .   These might be combined with an Atlas / Walthers 1G Roco steel 40 DD or Atlas recent car of the same type.
IIRC the MT 50 ft riveted Auto box (or was it the PRR Round Roof Car?) also had an end door which could be used as a master for resin copies.

    Do not forget the Micro Trains 40 foot DD automobile box car with end doors, I have a red GN, looks close to prototype, and a Union Pacific. Yes the Walthers  wood outside braced box car some like NP with end doors, I sure wish they could find the tooling and rerun these, however too much glue was used ,and the side doors could have been made as opening doors.                             Nate Goodman (Nato).

Like Ben up above, I never knew this company existed.  And it never occurred to me to google "N scale Rock Island 40' auto car with end doors"- I will be honest, I never knew that existed either.

Sounds like a very complete kit of a unique car for $20.  My thinking is they may get more "n scale interest" now that a few N scale modelers know they are out there.

Another case of a M&P manufacturer failing to perform adequate marketing yet expecting N scale consumers to recognize his effort in creating an obscure prototype and flock to him as if it were a mass produced prototype akin to a PS1.

A friend of mine did a really nice kitbash in HO scale of one of the CP cars from the old Life-Like/now Walthers 50' automobile boxcar. He shortened the car and also had to narrow the doors a little.

CN had similar cars as well. I don't know about US roads, but assume this sort of thing would have been common there too.

Intermountain did a 50' end door car kit as well. The nice part was that the end doors were on a separate sprue. I wonder if they are still available? If the are it would be quite easy to apply them to a 40' car.

Up until a few weeks ago I didn't know about the either. I bought 9 CB&Q 50 boxcar kits off E Bay and recently built them. I'll snap a picture when I get home tonight. The end doors are really well done. The sprue for the door contained the door, the special short end ladder and a straight strip that goes between the 2 door halves.

I kept the instructions and maybe a P/N is available.
