40' end door boxcar.... um....?

I remember making a 40' car out of an Intermountain kit, but I could have cut the end door off a MTL car. It was a while ago.

Not entirely off-topic, but Central Vermont had a pretty good fleet of wood, outside-braced, 50' double-door boxcars with stamped steel automobile end doors.  One survives in Phonecia, NY at the Empire State Railroad Museum, with visibly bulged-out end doors.   I did a double-take on that one.   My local CV expert says they were in use up almost into the 70's.

   Do not forget the Micro Trains 40 foot DD automobile box car with end doors, I have a red GN, looks close to prototype, and a Union Pacific. Yes the Walthers  wood outside braced box car some like NP with end doors, I sure wish they could find the tooling and rerun these, however too much glue was used ,and the side doors could have been made as opening doors.                             Nate Goodman (Nato).

Up until a few weeks ago I didn't know about the either. I bought 9 CB&Q 50 boxcar kits off E Bay and recently built them. I'll snap a picture when I get home tonight. The end doors are really well done. The sprue for the door contained the door, the special short end ladder and a straight strip that goes between the 2 door halves.

I kept the instructions and maybe a P/N is available.

Define "similar".  The Santa Fe as some auto cars with end doors (some plate, some look Dreadnaught original and others improved), some with extended roofs, some as built, some 40' and some 50's... some with double doors and some single side doors, even some express versions painted green with Dulux gold lettering equipped with steam and signal lines for use in passenger train consists.  In the war years, some were rebuilts from earlier autocars put into service moving airplane parts.  See Furniture & Automobile Box Cars by Hendrickson.

Like Ben up above, I never knew this company existed.  And it never occurred to me to google "N scale Rock Island 40' auto car with end doors"- I will be honest, I never knew that existed either.

Sounds like a very complete kit of a unique car for $20.  My thinking is they may get more "n scale interest" now that a few N scale modelers know they are out there.

Well....they've got MY interest now, that's for sure...

I tried to buy the Rock Island car, but "add to cart" brought up an email address instead of a purchase screen.  I tried emailing (Saturday, I think) and have not had a response yet.  Anyone have better luck?

Got a note from Rocket Express over last weekend, and have put in an order for one of the Rock Island end door cars.  Will report on particulars when I the kit arrives.  Might take a few extra days- post office was crowded yesterday.

    here are several MM articles that feature CN family boxcars,
    think its the 1st one,but havnt found the issue yet.
    MM-Dec-87 ,,GTW-CV boxcar
    and a couple of maybies:
    MM Aug 88,,, GTW Outside Braced Work Car.
    MM July 83,,,,,,CN boxcar,this could be anything,poor article description.
    now the article that I'm thinking about could have been in Prototype
    Modeler ??
    and Vic Roseman did a few articles in RMJ using the Accu-Rail CN boxcar,
   one was a Door and a Half conversion possibly ??

Yes.  I got an email response a few days ago, but it was a few days after I had sent my initial query.  He takes paper checks and MOs only, so you could just mail the order in instead of waiting for a reply.  NRI-1 is the product in stock.
