Some of this week's progress on the Colorado Midland.  Since this shot I've doubled the amount of roadbed laid.

I did some modeling for once. It hurt... Literally. Wednesday night I sliced my left middle-finger open with my scalpel.

I just installed the windows tonight.

It's a Pikestuff enginehouse, built per the instructions, except I took it upon myself to add the large Grandt Line windows to the one wall so that when engines are parked inside, people will be able to see them. (I plan to add lights inside.)
Painting the Grandt Line windows with just a Krylon rattle can was easy enough, but when I peeled the windows off the Tamiya tape, I had to clean paint "flash" from each little opening, which wasn't fun.

At least now I can say that I've done some real modeling recently.

It doesn't look pretty but this is the beginning of EL business car no. 2.  The artwork I showed last week is over in the UK now being turned into etchings.  The car is a MTL observation car.  The sides have been removed, car end removed and replaced with a 28-1 parlor car end, roof replaced with 28-1 parlor roof and observation end of roof modified.  The obs end wall has also been moved outward.  The interior has been reconfigured to match the EL floor plan.  Under car mechanical equipment has been removed and will be replaced with the correct equipment.   So far so good.

Over the last few weekends (and weekdays) I have been adding LEDs to a friend's Ringling Bros. Barnum and Bailey's circus Ntrak module.  He had it since early 90s and it originally had few incandescent lights on it.  I'm reworking it using white LEDs.

I peeled back the top from the menagerie tent to install lights in the tent and in the wagons with animals.

Here are some of the LED fixtures I'm making.  There are several others too. These are 0805 size LEDs which will go in the animal wagons.

The top of the tent has a rectangular opening in it so the interior can be viewed.  Here is the overall shot of the tent.

There will also be animated horses practicing outside. The motor will be hidden under the layout and the wire between the horses is practically invisible when they are installed on the module.

I still have ways to go - I'm installing LEDs in the office and ticket wagons, in all the food stands, and on the Side Show entrance.  These pictures don't show that part of the module.

Yes it is.    Roland modeled the circus before starting on the carnival project.  As you probably know, he uses the same base N-Trak module and drops in either the carnival or the circus scene.   He hasn't been displaying the circus as often as he does the carnival.

I was just going to replace the broken motor driving the horses but then I decided to go all the way and light things up.  It is not as captivating as the fully animated carnival, but it is still very well done model.  With all the lights installed I think Roland will start showing the circus more often.
