I've been toying with the idea of putting a store across from the coal mine.  Felt the area needed more visual interest and remembered seeing pictures of stores in the same vicinity or not to far away from coal mines.  Found a Blair Line General Store kit I thought fit the bill and started on it yesterday.  I haven't prep'd the area yet but thought I would get your guys take on the scene before I started cutting into the layout.  Here's a few pictures from different angles to give you an idea of what I want to do.  Of course the store won't be nearly as close to the tracks but this was the only way to keep it from falling.

Looking good as always! I'd say the store looks great. Build out a stone foundation under it with a window and door in adjacent sides and a staircase down and you'll have something.

Finished my pair of FM flat cars with LCL containers.  Flat is a Red Caboose shortened to 40'.  Stake pockets are removed and container hardware added.

I've seen buildings like that here in Appalachia propped up with posts - no real foundation at all.  One had an outhouse attached to the back wall, apparently with the door opening to the inside of the building, and everything dropped into the creek.  I don't know if it was still used, but obviously it had been at one time.  Sanitation came late to some of the areas around here.

There used to be several old buildings across the river from the N&W in Iaeger, WV that were propped up with wood or steel supports, but I THINK all of them had real sewage connections by the time I saw them in the 80s.  Look at Google Maps, at the east end of town, and you can see one of them.  There's an addition on the back of one of the buildings on the north side of the Tug Fork that clearly overhangs the river.  Unfortunately, the only times I've been to Iaeger were once on an N&W steam trip, and twice driving through, so I didn't take any pictures of the buildings.

What are these "sewage connections" you speak of?

Looks good to me. Most places where I'm from only have room for the creek, a road, and a railroad.  Any buildings are usually on, above or below one or two of those three things.

Adding length to an MTL gondola by cutting in 2 locations per end and then adding strip styrene just finished assembling
the one pictured all in all it worked well to improve the cutting I ordered an xacto saw and miter box so the next one should go easier, if this works I will rework my MTL gondola fleet.

So true. Yet at the same time, that's all that's left of the original T1 fleet; if it weren't for the Queen Mary, there wouldn't be anything.

where did you get the decals for containers and cars?
did decals come with the Red Caboose flats?
