Modern GE locomotives, starting with a Dash 9 use that truck.

Speaking of trucks, I weathered this one for my "Oakland Industrial" layout. More pics in that thread.

Well I've been doing some steam modeling. Well that's actually all I ever seem to do. It's actually rare that I'm working on something with traction motors.

On the table before I head for Denver is a Santa Fe 3700 class 4-8-2 with numerous details added to make it a proper atsf engine.

Also is a project from long ago that I decided to throw some decals on is the santa fe 2-10-4 the Madame queen #5000. It's by no means a perfect replica but until I find a better boiler starting point, this will have to do.

The other locomotive is one of my prized pieces from the late David Haines collection. It's a beautiful weather's hallmark santa fe 5011class 2-10-4. It's one of the few engine I haven't touched except to replace the old cvp decoder with an nce so I can run it. I also have a set of his brass ft's and passenger cars. He's one of the santa fe modelers I looked up to as a kid.

Also I've been working on a 3800class 2-10-2. Bad news is my wife knocked out of the table and now I have to fix all that.

And last is a set of vline erie built shells on pa chassis' . The b-unit I made from 2 a unit shells. Theyre painted with walmart $0.50 bottle acrylic paints because that's the only up yellow I seem to like with my eye I'm comparison to old photos. They're awaiting more decals so I can finish them.

Now it's of to Denver for real railroad business and rework my cajon pass layout plan while in the hotel.

Geoff Gooderham of Vancouver has done it again for CPR passenger modellers. He's created a 73' first class wooden side truss rod coach in resin. I was delighted to received a early sample form Geoff the other day and can't tell you how much this bucked up my spirits.



The coach, one of 57 built in the 1229 - 1276 series by the CPR's own Angus Shops (btw, "Angus Shops" is the handle of Mr. Geoff Gooderham here at TRW) beginning in 1903. These coaches lasted over 60 years on the CPR, five still being rostered in 1967! They were eventually used on branchlines (such as the Kettle Valley RR) and saw service across the entire system.

I added an interior to the 64 seat coach; using parts cut from the Micro Trains heavyweight interiors and lightly weathered the trucks and underframe.

Geoff has replicated many CPR cars and now has created the basis for a wonderful CPR branchline train with the 73' coach, coach-baggage express combine, 60' baggage express and 47' express reefer. Throw these behind a CPR steamer or early passenger diesel like an RS10, GP9 or C Liner and you've got a branchline consist that will turn heads.



(I just noticed the tiny "sway" in the roof on the coach and love it - certainly looks like pictures of these after 60 years of service - I'm sure that it won't be on production models.

Thank you Geoff for both the "gift" of a 73' coach for CPR modellers (and others I suspect) and the gift to a guy who's spirits needed a boost.... :D
