MTL heavyweight baggage car

N Scale Supply has low-rez pics up of the April releases.  It appears the Erie car has #1016s and that's how all the baggage cars are being shipped.  As with the diner however, 1015s can be swapped in to reduce the coupling distance.

I am sure they plan on releases that maximize their return on their investment. If a Santa Fe version could recoup the entire investment in one release it would be kind of stupid to release the proto version before the SF.  They could take the recouped money and start the next product while making profit on proto and other road names.  % made up to illustrate my point.

You don't recoup the investment in one release. It takes a few, under normal circumstances (i.e. releasing 5 or so road names simultaneously per release) before the tooling is amortized. I have no idea how many releases it takes for MTL to amortize new tooling. But a handful of releases annually won't do it, so there are no detriments to MTL in releasing the prototypical schemes first.

Have a couple on order, but hoping that in some future release, you save me the time and trouble and do some in the Erie two tone green scheme.  I enjoy the painting, but decaling stripes is not my favorite part of the hobby.

Joe, all these cryptic comments and smilies directed at the SPFs has my curiosity piqued. Do you perchance have something in the pipeline that needs PRR sales to justify?

Given that this is an Erie prototype and totally incorrect for anything the PRR rostered, I don't think it's surprising that Erie sales are out in front. Frankly I think it's a testament that died-in-the-wool SPFs are talking about getting them, knowing that they're foobies.

As I mentioned in my last post, any chance of "Pennsying them up" a bit with the 3D-7P2 trucks? Since you guys have them anyway...

not always usually true... the 122,000 as an example....proto's did well, but the ATSF Foob out sold them all by a wide margin.  PRR Diner only squeaked by later releases...  PRR is usually soft given the number of modelers who model the modern roads..at least for us.  And my tongue in cheek comment was meant to get PRR guys to step up...I mean...who models Erie

Erie Railroad and Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad (DL&W) merged in 1960 to form the Erie Lackawanna Railroad (EL).

WHEN did Erie Lackawanna change the paint scheme of the baggage car now being offered by Micro-Trains?

I assume it did take some time, but how much? Or did they patch the road numbers and/or name of the railroad in a matter of days?

(Oh and, btw, I bought the prototypical PRR diner, too. It's the thing we N-Scale modelers miss the most: Prototypical models. But I do understand the reasons. Every company has to earn a few bucks to make a living...)

On a side note, which 122 000 were the prototypical ones?

MTL is going to do the R50b. That's why GHQ only did one run.

Right now I'm only in for one. It's my way of saying thanks to MTL for the other correct Pennsy passenger cars they produced.
