Found topo maps of the area for the layout.  Interestingly there was even a large streetcar terminal adjacent to the area, although I'm modelling the 80's so that was long gone.   My layout will feature the P&W mains and yard leads, and probably just a double track PRR main, with the river being the backdrop, so the map will basically be flipped.  The idea is to have a staging yard behind the backdrop.  Some switching options for the P&W/B&O, PRR/CR will be more roundy-round but that's fine with me.

I bought my wife an iPad for her birthday and HAD to test out the video function  ;)

The C&NW RS3u was built and weathered by Charlie Hopkins. I installed the ESU Loksound select micro and took the video on my Kingsbury branch.

the kingsbury branch is such a realistic layout. if I could do half that good of modeling I would be a happy man.

Finally nearing the end of the V2.0 ACY 3900 series saga.  Here's the rebuilt master I posted back in October.


I made 10 copies.  Here is one ready for the paint shop.


One of the 10 painted and ready for decals.


Also made a master of the original Walthers DD SS box car that started the whole thing and cast 4 of them.  So I think I'm set for handling tire traffic out of Akron.  Doing three copies at a time is good.  10 is a bit much.  I'm ready to move on to another project!

Have also waded back into E-bay after many years away to sell off my 70's era stuff.  User chshdh if you're interested.  Nothing active now but after the holidays I plan to post more.

Safe travels to all who plan to do so during the holidays.

Strange things start happening in downtown Camden.
Campbell Soup just got an unusual delivery.

Could they be planning a chocolate soup for the holidays?

I couldn't tell you whether that specific model of log loader represented by GHQ was around or not.  I needed a model of something to load logs and poles at numerous places on the layout and this seems to fit the bill. 

A quick Google photo scan, and my extremely limited knowledge, and the model looks similar to a photo I found of a FiatAllis 745 wheeled loader, upon which log loaders appear to have often been based.  The photos was taken in 1981 and apparently that loader was produced "in the late 70's".  The GHQ model also appears somewhat similar (but with a more modern cab) when compared to a FiatAllis 645 which was produced in the early 60's.  So more research is required I am afraid if you wish a definitive answer.

Great stuff this week! That Burlington observation is particularly insane and I really love the woodchip unloading scene! :o

It's obvious that it's project season again and I, too, have been making some (slow) progress on my 2nd and 3rd SP SW1500 bashes, which includes the addition of the air tanks, more grab irons and more radiator detail work.

Opted for open shutters on one unit and closed on the other. Evergreen's .040 spacing clapboard was perfect for representing the 8 closed shutters. As shown at a previous WEU, the visible fan on the other unit was scratchbuilt out of styrene and the open shutters were made from .040 x .010 styrene strips.


MT's offering that came out in the middle of these bashes slowed things up, but I decided I was too far along to stop now. ;)

I spent the weekend running trains at the B&O museum with BANTRAK.

I think I found the best "Conrail" scene I could, which just so happened to be on a fellow a$$hat's module.

It happened when I tied my local down for "lunch".





It's a much more fun alternative to CP Sheetz.

Power Stoke, Thank you for the link. You have done a very nice job with the layout, it has a New England feel. The Atlas Gulf Summit track plan always caught my eye and because of the stone viaduct, I always imaged it as a Erie railroad layout. After looking at your photos, the layout works very well as a Guilford layout.
