UP Passenger Yellow on New Excursion Set

Greetings,

I just received my KATO UP #844 and Excursion Train Set.  The first locomotive I got ran "terrible" it wobbled and would derail on curves. Turns out one of the drive axles was not round.  The replacement runs very nice and looks good.

In looking at the Passenger cars in the set. Are they a bit on the orange tinted side or is that the color of the train.  The paint job is very well done on the cars and the water bottles.  I would attach a photo but the color might not come across correctly because of lighting.

Just wondering about the coloring.  Otherwise the set is great.  Even the flag on the water bottle was done as a separate piece on the tender its not a decal.

Axle not round?  Aren't axles simply pieces of steel rod?  Maybe it was bent?  Seems weird but I guess it can happen.  But that makes me wonder if they even give these things a short test run after assembly.  Hmmm.

The flags are separate pieces and are available as spare parts on Kato USA spare parts website.  Just yesterday I ordered bunch of FEF spare parts from there.

So being that mine is in the mail , is it more Cheddar or Cheese Doodles . I was happy with American Cheese or a cross between American and Cheddar . Pretty soon it will closer to PFE orange . UP if somewhat the blame as they have changed their UP Yellow tints to screw with the model industry .

Santa delivered mine today, I've been a real good boy according to Mrs. Claus. I have not run it yet so I can't comment regarding that. My opinion, they knocked it out of the park with the water bottles, but what do I know as I am an SP guy. I have not received the 7 car set as yet.

I have one comment regarding the locomotive. It is  a real nice looking unit, cosmetically I don't think it could be better. Hats off to KATO. However, I want to mention something, IT IS NO BIG DEAL AND I AM NOT FLAMING and can be fixed in 5 minutes by myself. On the engineers side of the tender all of the seven bearing caps are painted silver. On the fireman's side of tender only the bearing caps on the fixed axles are painted. No paint on the front swiveling truck. As I said, do not think this is big deal, it is actually funny to a point, but does make me wonder somewhat about QC, even by KATO. All pictures and the vid I made shows all bearing caps are silver. Perhaps I should set this one aside and maybe it will be worth more than others in the future.

Neah, it is not a Micro Trains car - that is simply a defect, not a rare misprint.  :D
I would contact KatoUSA (phone or email) and let them know about this.

I had something similar on a Kato/Lemke Orient Express set. One truck on one car had the white marks only printed one one side. In my case (since the set was not distributed by KatoUSA, a quick email to the dealer took care of the problem).

A few months back I noted that the last run of ES44AC's was SLIGHTLY orangier than the previous runs...

I suspect Kato has just moved to a slightly different tone for EVERYTHING UP now.  They did this once before - around the time the AC4400's came out.  The paint applied has nothing to do with the prototype, in other words the three shades of yellow have gone on everything made at a particular time - so the COLA matches the AC4400 - and the earlier passenger sets match the original SD90MAC.

My business car train has not arrived (I did not order an FEF having no real interest in it)....   Which begs the question did everyone who pre-ordered at BLW received their cars?

Thanks, Bob!!!    I rarely pre-order stuff and figured this would be the one in a million that gets lost in UPS or something!  :)
