Are you pulling a Heideger, Eric, and taking the helix apart to get the track installed?

Nope. The track will be assembled and soldered into sub-assemblies and installed in place. I know, it's going to be a royal PITA.

Not sure what train length you are running sir, but that S-curve at the bottom could be real trouble. Beware! Don't ask how I know that. 

I'm hoping that it's not going to cause too much trouble. There's 10" of tangent between the curves, which is intended to mitigate the S-curve.

Well, regular resin molding season starts up for me next week, clear the decks for action.

Last custom build of the summer got done, a client request for a 13-tonner.    I'm stoked about the Atlas Shay coming out for another run, because that single-handedly fired up N scale logging like never before, and my Climax A's get the benefits as well.

Wow! Upon my first glance at the photo I thought that was a 1:1 locomotive!  Only when I scrolled down enough to expose the wheel flanges and the track I realized it was a model. Well done Randy!

I finally had the time to finish up some weathering on a few DeLuxe woodchip gondolas that I took on vacation a couple of weeks ago.  These are being repurposed for trash service on the new layout.  Just need to find the best way to body mount the couplers and which trucks to put under them.

In addition to gooning it up last weekend, this weekend I did some work on the layout. I spent an hour fighting with this one joiner track:


I hate dealing with short sections of flextrack like that. This one had to be acc'ed all together once I got it in place because there are only 4.5 sets of spike heads still holding it all together. It's a gnarly installation, but seems to work ok, and actually looks right at home.

I've been working on my layout's namesake town of Tehachapi.

Doug:  On my woodchip cars the couplers are mounted directly to the floor.  I used 1025s and notched the end sill to fit the draft gear box.  A 1015 would probably work just as well, but years ago the 1025 was easier to find, and I've been using them since they were the only option...

Ignore the raised "box frame" on the floor.  I have no idea what it's for, but it isn't needed.  If the rear of the "frame" gets in the way just carve it flat.  Paint the exposed end of the draft gear to match the car and it's done.

Atlas 100-ton trucks also fit, and make a nice addition, but that's optional.  Don't use BLMA 100-ton trucks unless you want to add washers, as that will make the floor too low for the couplers.

You doing the storefronts on the south side of Tehachapi Blvd.? No trip there is complete without breakfast at Kelcy's (tho' IIRC it used to be "Kelcey's").

Late to the party I know...work continues on the Celgar Pulp Mill (I wonder how many *more* times I am going to have start an update with those words )

Buildings assembled, braced, painted and windows added.  Weathering and details to go.  Oh, and replace the cardboard tube storage tanks!
