Nothing layout related from me this week.  I was able to visit a relatively new ( 1 year in existence ) hobby shop in Lancaster, PA on Saturday.  The store is called ChooChoo Nuts.  They have a large selection of HO of all manufacturers and age, and a modest selection of N Scale.  Most N is new product, while the HO is a mix of new and old, as they buy/sell estates and collections.  N scale is gaining more interest from their customers as more people find out they are open and stop in hunting around for items.  Owners are very nice and informative, I spent almost an hour and half there looking through items and shooting the breeze with the owners.  Did manage to pick up a Kato Heritage Reading unit though.   :D

In progress with the GHQ R50b kits.  Kits are very nicely done.  I will be finishing these cars this weekend to bring the PRRT&HS annual meeting next week.

Over the last few weeks I had a little time to work on some scenery on the BC Rail Chetwynd Sub. The photos below represent early fall in the Pine Pass soon after the CN take over. Please let me know what you think? I am having problems with what to do with the foreground scenery. Any suggestions would be welcomed.






Tim, it is good to see that Mini-box decaled up. Nice work so far this weekend everyone.

Maybe add some of the ground bushes/clump foliage that you have above the rock face.  Add some wildlife ?

Looks great Chris, the backdrop and rock work are very effective.  I would consider some trees in the lower portion of the foreground, with bushes higher and closer to the tracks.

Nice SD50F!

Almost got to keep it!

Things along the old Pennsylvania-Reading Seashore Lines trackage (now Conrail Shared Assets under NS & CSX) have been exciting for the last few months. An oil storage facility has replaced the old Texaco (/Costal) refinery. A new mile long siding to service it (plant trackage is switched by SMS (famous for using old Baldwin units)) is being finished and long strings of oil tankers have been parading through town. Recently lead by the NS heritage Lehigh Valley SD70 with a FerroMex unit behind it (and who said our borders were secure). The following day a BC unit was on the PRSL trackage. The NS Erie unit, LV and PRR units have been photographed on-line.

I saw an N scale NS heritage Erie unit for a good price (and free shipping) on ebay from a seller with a good rating and ordered it. It arrived (see photos) but alas is going back. It goes for a minute or two and then sounds like it is tearing itself apart. When you pick it up the rear truck needs to be squeezed back together. Alas what a beauty it was.

My other weekend project was to put an EL RS3 shell on a duplicate Pennsy RS3 unit I had. I did manage to break one handrail and it still needs couplers. The EL units showed up on PRSL trackage in the mid-1970s and according to the PRSL Historical Society were famous for starting fires (I assume along the tracksides).

Actually found a few minutes to lower a Micro-Trains 36' reefer to the proper ride height.  It's a one-of-a-kind car in a limited time-frame, but it's only the second MTL Swift reefer I've been able to justify adding to the roster.

According to DJ's trains if it is a hazmat car you need 5 spacers after the engine and 5 before the caboose (remember them?).

What if it is an all tank car train?
