David,

I realize this would require ripping out the road and ballasted track, but can you consider just rearranging the track to move the crossings?  For example, on the closer track, there's that little piece of track to the right of the crossing that could be put on the left side.  That would line the crossing on that track up better with the bridge.  On the other track, you might be able to swap the pieces on each side of the crossing.  That might move that crossing to be better in line with the bridge, too.

Hope this helps,
DFF

I gave some constructive criticism to David Gray, so it's only fair if he gets a shot at my work, too.  More kudzu:

All good points, but Dave, you hit the nail on the head.  I will see what I can do to remedy this, as I don't want to readjust the bridge due to the work already in place on the river bank.  Guess this is what happens when you plan as you go.

I don't think it's that big of a deal, especially for an access road to a mine site - it's not an Interstate. The key is finding a "justification" for the offset that might explain it.

Maybe a large rock outcropping, just to the left of the bridge, as seen in these pictures? Anything that would have been easier to make the road go around, rather than through.

One suggestion I'd like to make? Change that tight S-curve into a simple angled section of road.  The road doesn't have to meet the bridge or the track at a perfect 90º angle.

This week been working on signaling on my home layout, working on some pipe loads and a couple of pole cars.
I did make it to the open house at the club this weekend and ran my work train.
Was the first open house I have made in a while and had a great time.

I say either angle the road or make it like a funnel to the bridge.  I also really like your layout, very nice and the scenery is gorgeous!

Doug! Looks great! Can you take a shot of the trucks

Hi Josh:

Here is a close up of the trucks.  These are the correct PRR 3D-P1 trucks for most D78 diners.  I decided to use the original metal trucks that came with the car.  I could have also used the Kato trucks frome the Broadway Limited RPO, but the metal trucks roll pretty well.  MicroTrains will probably do this truck for their upcoming D78 diner..

Doug.

David, since the crossing ramps are wider than the road itself, the road doesn't need to hit them on center, so give the road a gentle jog instead of a sharp zigzag:

And if you want justification for the odd route, add a section house or some other small structure, relay sheds, etc., and make it into a "mini-scene."

After years away, I seem to be drifting back into the model trains. I'd swear I used to hang out around here, but when I tried to log in, it said my user name didn't exist.

Between (re?)registering and being activated I managed to sort out the problem I was going to ask about. Now, I've got my trains running better than they ever have. They're like the videos I see of other people's trains, now.

Maybe, I can see about finishing the scenery....

Doug, thanks! I just wanted to see this version up close. MTL has CONFIRMED the 3D-P1 truck for us! Hurray!

Hello all,
so many things on the workbench...
some FUD 3d printed items received a 24 hour soaking in Bestine....

ESM's White Tower Reataurant (can't figure a way to use this in an ATSF scenario-perhaps a 'Chicago' style urban module)...regardless, a beautiful piece that I can't wait to paint and detail

some 3-signal targets...

one of two of Bill's (Skytop models) beautiful REA reefers built converted troop sleepers (still have to add the BLMA grabs and airbrush the BLMA PE stirrups -they didn't arrive 'til after the preliminary painting-then gloss-weather-flatcoat-weather)
These castings are beautiful...I've acquired 5 so far- three outside door boxes (NYC) and two of these reefers (REA)

Thanks,
~Bruce

My weekend started off great for me on Friday with the arrival of a package from the UK.

At last my Dapol GWR 57xx has arrived!

Best thing about this little brute is that it is even DCC ready. In the cab there is a 6-pin NEM socket.

Myself and ChristianJDavis1 watched it do some loops round my ring of Life-Like track on a sketchy makeshift table, with 3 5-plank wagons and a 'Toad'.

Saturday had more surprises in store with it being the opening day at Strasburg Rail Road. There happened to be a photo-charter with a mixed-freight and the real show-stopper was the double-headed steam.
