The top one is a late 1950's and the bottom one is a very early 1960's model.

TomyTec makes a fuel tank very similar to the one in the photo.  Truck Collection 8 included one on a Isuzu cab and chassis.  Here is a link to a photo of the TomyTec model.  http://www.en.dm-toys.de/produktdetails/items/TTC085.html

Many of the TomyTec 1:150 scale truck beds will work very well with 1:160 scale truck cabs and chassis.  (Especially those found in the Showcase Miniatures builder's packs, just to bring this back to the topic.)  :)

Thanks Bryan - I am not much of an expert on trucks so it seems like I do need the GHQ version.

The link to Hank's Truck Pictures does not work for me, and my anti-Malware is blocking a threat from it - will have to sort that out as it is such a valuable resource with lots of Canadian content.

Carter, I have that model and the tank is out of proportion to the North American prototype. It also lacks the hose reel in the rear that makes modern home heating oil trucks so distinctive.

Tim, those are the basic cabs I am thinking about too, but in the short wheelbase "suicide cab" variety:

While GHQ has a sleeper version of a similar truck, it is not exact and kit bashing the white metal cab is VERY difficult.

Since Showcase has been focusing on modular bodies for similar cabs, this might be a good candidate:
Suicide (day) cab short wheelbase
Suicide (day) cab extended wheelbase with dormer
Suicide (day) cab with tag axle: http://www.hankstruckpictures.com/pix/trucks/dfaust/cf/cf_24_2203_chicopee.html
Extended Day cab with tag axle: http://www.hankstruckpictures.com/pix/trucks/goudy/cf_tank_lines_frtlnr.jpg

A parts pack with a sun visor, wind deflector, vertical air cleaner, dormer and pup dolly would be a natural.

There's a shyness found in reason
Apprehensive influence swallow away
You seem to feel abysmal take it
Then you're careful grace for sure
Kinda like the way you're breathing
Kinda like the way you keep looking away

Dormer? Are you talking about a drom box?

Daniel,

I also have the truck, and I am not sure what you mean by "out of proportion for the North American prototype."  Fuel oil tanks come in a variety of shapes, with some more oval than others, depending on the manufacturer of the tank.  I realize the tank on this truck may not work for the prototype you are trying to model, but it might work for someone else.

The TomyTec tank is about 8.5 N scale feet wide (1:160) and about 15.5 N scale feet long (1:160).  The tank on the co-op fuel truck that delivers diesel to my farm looks very much like the tank on the TomyTec model.

True, the hose reel would need to be scratch built if you need one, and a few other minor modifications may be required, but until someone makes a better fuel tank, this one has kitbashing possibilities.
