Models with 48" Q-Fans?

Are there any models that have the 48" Q-Fans molded on them?

I know the Atlas SD50/60 uses or at least should use the 52" Q-Fan. I will have to check when I get home tonight. But that does not help. I need the 48" Q-Fan.

BLMA do them. I don't know of any models that come with them, not my area of expertise I'm afraid.

Yes, I knew I forgot to mention something.

And not the BLMA ones. Nothing against BLMA. Good stuff, but the Q fan etchings will not work. At least for me they will not. The Q-Fan has a distinctive look to it. You cannot add a flat etching to a fan base and call it a Q-Fan. The Q-Fan has a curved top. Atlas did a pretty decent job on the 52" fan. Just need something like that for the 48" Q-Fan.

Thanks Rob. Lots of help.

Looking over the models you listed, the best looking one appears to be on the Athearn F59PHI. No I need to find a junk F59PHI shell. Anyone have one they do not want anymore?

Or do I need to buy the whole model to get the fans? I've done dumber things to get what I have wanted one more ridiculous act won't make a difference.

I'll give Athearn ring and see if they have any spare shells hanging around. Doubt it, but will not know unless I ask.

Try Ebay... the first runs were horrible runners (some might even say junk) so you may be able to find them cheap there

Hmm... I have a bunch of
cabooses with 48" Q-fans...

Two scientists create a teleportation ray, and they try it out on a cricket. They put the cricket on one of the two teleportation pads in the room, and they turn the ray on.
The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.

Athearn does sell parts, so you might be in luck for just getting a shell.

Miniatures by Eric produces a 48" fan. I don't know if it is a Q fan, a 3 x2 smartphone screen it is hard to tell.

I love your modelling.  First learned of your work from the Cannon website.  There is a tutorial on constructing diesel hoods and eventually it links to your website.  Great resource!

If I can actually get a set of Q-Fans from the F59PHI, I will cast them for various projects. Then build a DB hatch with the bulge and Q exhaust. This might prove to be a rather fun project.

I don't know if you saw this topic https://www.therailwire.net/forum/index.php?topic=29171.msg312038#msg312038.  I used this method on some Athearn HO SP specific details with mixed results.  Cannon Co is not interested in producing n scale so this may be the only way to fab some parts.

Greg,

That is a very interesting product. I did not know about it.

When you say mixed results. give me an example of your mixed results. What was not good about it and what was?

If there is some N scale model with the correct fans then it is very easy to make a simple open-mold (RTV rubber), then use it to cast them out or resin.

Very true and that is my plan. But if Athearn actually has the shells in stock, then I will just buy what I need and cut those up.
