Weekend Update 10/20/13

My control panel is beginning to take shape, with holds drilled for the power toggles and LEDs.  One toggle is temporarily fitted for testing.  The blue tape is holding all the layers in alignment while the holes are being drilled.  I'm debating getting a matte cover plate so that it doesn't bounce so much light.  Should have the toggles/LEDs for the power and programming track mounted by next weekend.

Second one up this week...then I am off to take the family on the Stanley Park Ghost Train!

Progress continues on the Barr creek bridge...piers and approach bridges built. Next week will be rivets and abutments (I hope)



I also found  a prototype photo that showed I had built the lower bridge bracing incorrectly, so that all had to come out and be replaced with something more "lacy"

I finally got my MO-JO back and was able to get some train work done!  Here is my latest FEF-1, it still needs a few more details installed.  The engine casting has significant improvements over the previous casting.  Including new smoke stack, corrected sand and steam dome (previous castings had a slight angle), pipe work has much better detail and the tender casting has flaws removed.

Looks good Bryan!  +1 on the matte finish. It helps in reducing reflections.







Jason,  you have again done a superb job kitbashing/scratchbuilding a beautiful steamer!  Those Kato GS-4s sure come in handy!

Jason, good to see you back! The 809 is beautiful, love it!
But, what I'm really interested in is the big Vandy... Is that something you can cast? One old use them for the 5000, 5300 and 5500 2-10-2 s and 5090 4-10-2's. Even some of the 3500 Malleys had them! Very UP, nice work, as usual. Welcome back 8

Solid progress on coach BCOL 6508 this week in advance of final assembly, including final trimming of ends to match sides, corner posts added to outer vestibule end, holes drilled for grab irons and sill steps, some grab irons and handrails installed, floor locating ridges cut, drip rails above windows and side ladder mounts installed.

Outer ends trimmed, holes for grab irons drilled, and vertical grab irons beside doors installed:




Outer and inner vestibule end with brake details, grab irons, and vestibule step handrails (I am modelling an open vestibule):




Inside of outer vestibule end with corner posts (which will wrap around vestibule floor), brake details and grab irons:

And all carbody parts completed and ready for final assembly:




I also spent a considerable amount of time creating an assembly jig to get the sides mounted onto the Con-Cor roof.  Get that wrong and the model could be a write-off (sob).  The challenge is to get the sides mounted perfectly perpendicular to a curved roof . . . . . 

The big day has finally arrived; after eight months of fabricating and preparing parts, it is time to put it all together, starting this weekend (after a quick visit to the Chilliwack Show).
