There may be a plastics dealer or distributor near you. They might even cut it for you.

You can even buy it at Lowe's or Home Depot, and they will cut it for you into 8" strips.   It may not
be the cheapest way you can get it, but it's probably convenient.

Also if you have a glass shop nearby, you may be able to get it there as well.

Your local hardware store has to have some . By me it is a law that storm doors use it instead of glass once the OEM glass is broken . Not going to be thick though .

Probably the most expensive option, but one all the same, framing shops use plexi.  They usually order out for it, so you may even be able to get the name of their distributor to order direct.
Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.

Just a thought... Plexiglas (or acrylic) tends to be somewhat brittle, and can break around attachment points, especially if it's curved.

You may want to consider instead using Lexan; the material is almost indestructible, can be bent sharply in a metal brake, and because of its greater strength and flexibility, you can use thinner material and achieve the same level of protection.

You can order Lexan online from a number of plastics dealers, such as: http://www.eplastics.com/

They will even custom-cut it for you. I consider the higher cost to be well worth it.

If it's not curved, consider using Velcro for attachment of acrylic guards. Not only will the Velcro cushion impacts somewhat (thus mitigating the tendency to fracture), but the guards will be removable for maintenance.

Google Tap Plastics for a location near you.

Great, if you live near one. The one near me has awesome deals in the scrap bin all the time too.
You can really score !!  Stay away from places like OSH--they want insane amounts for even small pieces !

You may want to consider instead using Lexan;

Also Plexiglass is a brand name of acrylic.
