Doing some final fixes on my C-636P, before I get to the paint and decals, Alco demonstrator for this one.


That's the weekend done, it's Sunday evening here in NZ.

That is the most powerful looking cab unit I ever saw . Fantastic work there as well . Love it .

The Alco C-636P was a proposal by Alco in 1967 to create a cowl unit for passenger service.  Alco didn't produce it in the end, but GE and EMD both built cowl units for the Santa Fe.  This is one big loco and would have looked spectacular in the warbonnet.  Apart from the published Alco plans, the only other reference to this that I have seen was an oil painting in SP blood nose scheme, though the painting differed from the plan in places.

Not much modeling for me but I did manage to get my switch stand lantern lit and bolted on
with a little help from my Grandson Ben. All that's left now is the target that I have that needs painting.

Fantastic mailbox Jon.  I agree, the 636P would look great in the D&H PA scheme.  It's not unimaginable that a real C-636P could have ended up on the D&H.  If the Santa Fe had purchsed them in 1967, then the D&H may have bought these from the Santa Fe rather than the PA's.

I spent this weekend adding lights to a carnival scene.   My friend Roland Kelley builds the scenes and I illuminate/animate them.  This new part of the midway is an extension to the original carnival N-Trak module we have been displaying for years.  If you're interested in more info about it, see http://forum.atlasrr.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=58447  The part I'm working on now is visible in the first photo of the initial post in that thread (it is sitting on the corner module behind the carnival module. At this point we have a 2' module which will house the extension.



Here are the 3 sideshow tents I illuminated this weekend. Too bad Photobucket resizes (shrinks) the photos I upload.  I installed the LEDs a while back but this weekend I finally hooked them all up to the power source. We are on a deadline as Roland would like to have it finished for the Big-E show in Springfield in January.  Even when all the lights are installed, he will need to add dozens of figures and finalize the scenery.  I still have many more tents and stands (with LEDs already in them) waiting to be installed. Well, off to my workshop I go...

SP&S #604 got airbrushed this week!   It's a mix of 2/3 Floquil Weathered Black and 1/3 Floquil Engine Black.
Decals and weathering are yet to come.  The decals will take some extra work, as it turns out the oval SP&S
logo for the tender is not commercially available.  I'm chasing a few leads.

I'm also thinking of adding some cab window shades.

Very nice Max!  It is great to see how a coat of grimy black paint transforms a plethora of multi-color details into a great looking model!  I don't know why but to me the train in that photo looks like a nice excursion train.

20" of right of way added to the Erie Lackawanna, needed some more room after the wye for ops.  (reading the layout engineering threads are dangerous, making me review how my layout works)  I weighted the cork down with cunks of to steel; got up to twelve pounds before the foam started to deflect slightly.  Surprised how strong it is, but will add a plywood spline underneath.  Now have a place to put that DL&W interlocking tower kit I've had my eye on.



Once again, amazing modeling skills displayed by the members of this forum.

Pud, that GP looks really awesome. I like all the piping. It's definitely a slight difference from the usual torpedo tube geeps.

And the FEC SD40-2? Be still my heart...

I spent yesterday shooting geological research photos of the NCR (it's time for the layout to rock...), and today I ran a bunch of Reading era stuff on the BANTRAK layout at the B&O museum. No good pics though.

Speaking of the B&O museum, I also got a cab ride in the Chessie GP38. That thing is really nice!

Oh, and on the truly sad front. Sean, Tristan (from the CRHS) and I closed Pollock Johnnies on their last day. I thought you guys would be proud.
