You have proof through his posts that Railwire member SAH is an excellent scenery builder, detailer, and modeler.  There is some proof of his fine scenery skills on my railroad now as well.  Saturday, however, his job during part of the day was to keep trains moving over the road using both verbal dispatching and CTC.  Here is some of his handiwork with the radio and keyboard as he arranges a meet between eastbound train 456 and westbound 371 at Ridge, the west end of the siding in the Loops on my Charleston, Roanoke & Eastern Railway.  Steve is working as the East End Dispatcher in Lewisburg, WV.

Everything you see in this video is a work-in-process.  I am an operator first and foremost.  I love building scenery but I have only recently gotten started in earnest on this version of the railroad.  Steve was generous with his time a few Saturdays ago and helped me learn some of his techniques.

Been working on the last scene on the Free-moN "Shoo-fly" module: bridge construction.

Still have a ways to go.
Currently building a bulldozer and crane car (to be perminantly positioned above the yet-to-be-poured abuttment.
Need to figure out how to make churned dirt / dozer tracks / mud (thinking brown paint and some Durhams water putty, or maybe just paint and matte modge podge).
Workers, water tank, tools, more wood, more framing, more rebar, etc.

Any other construction detail suggestions appreciated.

Last will be a final water pour to raise the creek a smidge and cover all the crap & scratches there now.

At least I won't have to explain the lack of bridge there anymore
Awesome work as always :o :o I just built a wooden structure that I need to get that light and dark grey weathered wood effect like you have here. I seen your video on scratchbuilding a shed and you used india ink in isopropyl alcohol to stain the wood my question is do I need to mix black india ink with white ink to get the right mixture? Also can I brush it on? My model is already glued together with zap and I don't want to soak it and risk breaking the bond! It was hard gluing all the small pieces on as I used 1/32" square strip wood for the window frames ect. After I get the wood stained then I'm going to try and replicate badly peeling paint over parts of the shed.

M.C.  that scenery is amazing.  The wood, concrete, water, and terrain  textures and colors, wow.  Even "simple" things like the terrain hill going up to
the track are so darn real!   You really have a knack for  this.

I actually have an update!  Installed several decoders, and made repairs to several defects found while (attempting) running trains on Ian's setup at last weekend's show.  Biggest gripe:  the drive in one of my SD26s slips due to the odd design of the connection inside the flywheel to the drive shaft.  A little dot of super glue fixed it; I hope it holds up.  And the best part, I got my Hallmark 4-6-2 running.  She does have a little hitch in her gallop, but it's far better now than just emitting a hum when power was applied.

This is my favorite thread most weeks.....always great modelling here......this week is no exception.....

My update is a little different this week. I am currently preparing to move from New Hampshire to Oregon, and I've been selling my large collection of HO stuff on the 'bay.......I inherited these at the age of 14, so selling them is heartbreaking but nessasary.......and the proceeds will be used to fund a new layout in my new train room, which is already claimed at our new place.......

Anyway, here are some of the locos I had to part with recently....

Thanks for looking and have a great week......

The signal replacement effort continues... This mast is ready for painting and will replace the eastbound home signal at SPRUCE Interlocking.

Nothing really worth getting the camera out and taking pictures of this week.  I installed the last piece of fascia (3/16" hardboard) on the Seaboard Central HCD layout today.  All of the screw holes and corner seams have been patched, but I still need to sand it.  I like the smooth, seamless look.

I could say that I didn't feel like kicking up a ton of dust this evening sanding that patch, but the real reason is that I moved on to the installation of a Digitrax UR92 Duplex Radio Transceiver and IR Receiver Unit in the newly-installed fascia.  It took a while to carefully cut the hole in the fascia (keeping it smaller than the cover plate) and the underlying foam to neatly fit the transceiver and wire it up.  I'm running trains on radio now and it works great, even on a small layout.  I can now run trains on all sides of the layout, without having to put the throttle down to throw switches on the far side of the layout.

Seaboard Central unplugged!  Sweet.

The A-4 is painted now, minus the white stripes, white rimed wheels, and Decaling. I've started to use "Citidel" paints lately, witch I really like. It's the paints that the warhammer 40k guys use. Their isn't any "railroad" colors, but the basic colors are pretty damn good.

Also, for the few NP guys here, did all the steamers have the same red oxide/boxcar red color cab roofs? or only the large locos?

Great work everyone!
No pics for me, I spent the weekend cleaning and tweaking track...trying to get everything bulletproof so I can start on scenery.

..actually ended up finishing the photo backdrop composition since I had the whole weekend to work on it.

Final print will be 12 inches tall by about 16 feet long.  I will do a few tiled prints on 11 x 17 paper first before committing to the final print.
