Not for the SD80MAC like that, I've taken inspiration from the Brazilian USDM locos on the meter gauge but this unit will be normal ole standard gauge.

I thought the drawing looked standard gauge, but that maybe someone, somewhere, had bought such a unit.  I wonder if it would sell in countries with lighter axle loads than North America?  You might have the prototype for a full size locomotive!

Most countries that can handle USDM loading gauge locomotives generally have the perway to handle the weight too. My idea behind the SD80MAC with 8 axles is to increase the number of powered axles to increase tractive effort vs lightening the axle load.



I posted this up a while ago, it's an 8-axle version of the SD70ACe/45-SD80ACe being built in Brazil. No confirmed orders so far (that I've heard) but the option is there (notice it's offered in any gauge from 1m-1.6m). Maybe PM to discuss it further to save clogging up the thread?

An FL9 and a C-Liner have the same configuration.

The basic idea is that the rear of the unit has a very heavy HEP unit and huge water tanks and the A1A truck displaces the weight better.

Leggy:  That's all right, I was just wondering if there was a prototype, and there is.  The idea seems to be much the same as EMD's GP/SD combination, then, with more axles and traction motors allowing greater weight and TE?  Maybe we'll see these on US coal trains.

Cool. Great models, thanks. Certainly meets the "unusual" criterion, for sure. I was in West Colton when all four arrived on the first trip down from Brooklyn. The paint scheme was pretty "wow" fresh and in person. Not to mention "What were they thinking?"

C855B? Great handle! Thought you might be interested in these then, they more than qualify as unusual. I built them back in 86' while a member of the San Diego SONS. By todays standards they're pretty crude and I made a basic mistake, they're four feet too short, adn yes it makes a difference. That's why I'm working on a new ABA set from Kato quality shells.
