I had scratch-built a backwoods coal loader last year. I finally installed the corrugated sheet over the conveyor and completed the scenery for the site....

Well done.  The rust on the sheet metal is really well executed.

Where'd you get the conveyor belt?

conveyor belt is scratch built from styrene. I was suprised, it didn't take anywhere near as long as I had anticpated.

A huge duh moment for me. I have in the works a tipple but never thought to have a truck dump coal loader in the same area until I saw your picture. Thanks for the great idea.

Looks great, but what you really need for lease power is some SP six axle Alcos, some CN SD40, and/or various Penn Central/early CR EMD.  All of the above saw heavy use on L&N rails in the 70's.

Huh... so that's where they were before serving out their last days in yard trim service. It was a mystery to this teenager at the time how SP could have 40 C628s and C630s, yet the number of times I actually witnessed any in operation could be counted on one hand. So SP was foisting the misery of maintaining them on somebody else... fascinating.

The Long Island units may not be prototypical, but I grew up on LI and always liked that paint scheme. It was going to be the color scheme of a free lanced road I was thinking about before I decided on the L&N. I'm also a fan of hi-short hood power.

LIRR, do you have a track plan somewhere?  You are doing a lot of what I'd like to accomplish on my layout, ie paper mill and coal traffic.

Here's a crude track plan, not to scale. It's about 11 feet top-to-bottom (measured along the left side) by about 17 feet left to right measured along the bottom, about 21 feet Left to right along the top
