Thanks. The black vertical support is from a kitbashed coal mine kit that I narrowed from 3 tracks to two. The trusses are from an engine house kit I never built. The pipes parts are from the Walthers refinery kit. I saw that on their web site on sale and bought it strictly to cannabilize for the parts.

I'm really enjoying the creative modeling on display here.  Are you basing this plant (and the loading area, in particular) off of a specific prototype?

thank you. nothing specific whatsoever....just winging it to fit the space really. I'm sure someone that knows quite alot about paper mills could nit-pick forever on this...same with the roof shingle plant earlier in the thread. But in both cases, I am just going for a plausable facility that provides shipping destinations and a convincing scene.

Great looking! One idea that strikes me is to differentiate some of the piping as older by weathering it quite severely. One thing I have noticed in studying industrial scenes lately is the relativly continuous adding on and rebuilding that occurs at these facilities. My wife works for an industrial contractor and they have multiple clients where they are almost continually upgrading and adding on to facilities such as this. As new machinery, or process, or product come into use they add piping and equipment to deal with it and tend to leave the old stuff there. Wether that is because they still use it or dont want to pay to have it removed I dont know but it makes for a hodgepodge of piping at the unloading spot.

I agree...I've just started painting. I will keep the weathering to a minimum, as my paper mill represents a relatively new facility, with the large metal buildings (I model the early 70s). Also, the spot is at the back of the scene, about 15" from the edge of the bench work, about 2' to the normal viewing position. It'll also be obscured by the shed structure, as well as a tank car half the time.  I am going for a proper overall "look and feel" to the scene. More photos to follow.

Starting a coal unloading shed here for the mill’s power plant. Gouged out the base-scenery down to the plywood…
