As was discussed in my Juniata Division build thread (https://www.therailwire.net/forum/index.php?topic=18915.msg273329#msg273329) I'm considering replacing the coal mine with a more appropriate industry, i.e., the JC Blair & Company Keystone Stationery plant at Huntingdon, PA.  For now all I have toward that end is a few Walthers modulars (with their HO-sized windows) and the Atlas Middlesex Manufacturing kit.  Just trying to visualize what that would look like:

Also may I ask -- which kind of ballast do you use?   It looks right on for Tehachapi.

Vollmer - You are a master of all things Pennsylvania...not bad for someone living in the deep south  :P


This week, picked up some spare sawhorses from the parents while on a weekend getaway in Hollidaysburg, PA.  I will now have temporary supports for the HCD layout (courtesy of sizemore...thanks Tim!) so I can finally begin to get out of the armchair and onto some real layout work...

While the HCD is currently only a dual track roundy-round with some switching on the interior, at some point in the future it will be a peninsula on a bigger layout of the CR Conemaugh Line in 1979/80, representing Hyde Park, PA or Vandergrift, PA, but I haven't decided on which yet.  The switching would be more prototypically accurate in Vandergrift, but I think the width of the HCD would force me to compress Vandergrift down to smaller than I would like.  Hyde Park is much smaller (more accurately fitting in the width of an HCD), but didn't have any industries requiring switching...ohhh decisions decisions...

I'm finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel... Only about 100+ cars still need trucks and/or couplers. In the past months, I've added trucks/couplers to about 500 cars. Darn, my books that I've been writing for ages had better sell so I can build my dream layout to run all these cars.

Awesome Dave! Very good work all around this week.

No (good) photos this week as the gf was visiting through today, but I got the mainline trackage laid on the 4x8. I'm waiting for one last turnout to arrive before I start on the yard trackage. I also won 3 50ft reefers and one of atlas's new wood boxcars on ebay. The reefers are undecorated and I was looking to paint them up in a fictional road. Does anyone here know someone with an alps who is willing to print custom decals?

NTS 2012 is now history.It was fun but oh so tiring (4 days long counting set day).Anyway I thought I would post a pic of my Z layout that was getting ooohed and ahhhhed 8 hours a day.Good thing I'm not one for having a swelled head,but I will atmit all the praise sure felt good.



People were simply amazed at how well such a tiny loco could run. :D That MTL SD40-2 pulled 20 cars 8 hours a day for 3 full days.
