Woodland Scenics Country Cottage Pre-Fab Landmark Structures.
Here it is fresh from the box.
I had to reclaim part of a plowed field for residential development.  8)

Roger  -- did the national guard use that building for target practice with Nscale shells?

This is a nice kit and especially welcomed as a new  residential structure, however I would have preferred that W/S  create holes to insert such as the shutters and trim.   These other holes are for details such as lawn mower propped against the house and such. They are definitely a short coming; that is my evaluation of an otherwise nice kit.

The thing that bugs me about all that "plug it into the wall" WS detailing (apart from its Seliosesque overkill) is that the stuff that's supposed to be sitting on the ground looks like it's actually hovering a few inches in the air. For the WS gas station I used on a previous layout, I just nipped off the plugs and used a bit of a white glue to stick the details to the wall such that they actually sat on the ground.

Anyhoo, still plugging along on the fertilizer building -

Cheers,
-Mark

Yes, Mark, I also removed some detail from the gas station and other built up W/S structures.
This was discussed in the Atlas forum and suggestions made there that W/S not attach all the details, but included for use as desired by purchaser.

Here are some of the engines I have built.  Also shown is the new casting a Milwaukee Road S-3 Northern with work to go.

Time to pull out a load of Stratton's finest craft ales....
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

Wazzou,

6 cars? How big is your roster? You must really really like the AA Morrison cars. Smart to model them post '66. Great stuff as usual and a nice respite from the product announcements.

cheers,

Andrew H

I received my package from Lou yesterday. The 62' beer car has already been stripped and I dug out my old photos of the FGE 5237/5145.

I have no way of measureing the outside of the real car, so I had to do some math with the photos. The ribs appear to be on 36" centers when measured against the 68" truck wheelbase. With seven ribs each side, you get 42 feet, plus 12 feet for the door an another foot for the box corrigations on the ends. That gives me a rough carbody length of 55 feet. This sounds about right as the interior length is 52'6"

Just wish I could measure the rear car and get a hard number.

Now I have to figure out how to splice the body without making any seams. Anyone have any good ideas?

Milling machine with a fine bit.  Cuts will be true enough that they will go together seamlessly.

I found a tube of contour putty in my inventory of supplies and decided to correct the problem with extra holes in the Country Cottage kit.  I used a painting knife to apply the contour putty from the back side or inside, then gently wiped off the excess from the outside of the walls.   :? Will see how that works.

Taking a few photos helped me see that some holes did not get filled, but I think this is a workable approach. The holes by the windows are for shutters.

Tested the dual diamonds with some freight cars:

(sorry, I couldn't find a better hand model  :))

I also cut the gaps to isolate four of the frogs - 26 rails and guard rails needed to be cut.

The gaps are about 15 thou wide. Next steps are to check for shorts, fill the gaps with styrene and add feeder wires.
