Kato announces new AMTK phIII F40PH units, Superliners, Amfleets

Kato announced today new Amtrak phase III equipment for delivery this month and next.

• F40PH modernized units with roof a/c units and ditch lights, two numbers available
• Superliner four-car set
• Step-down coach and Heritage baggage set
• Amfleet II coach two-car set
• Amfleet II lounge and Heritage baggage set

The Amfleet cars will be available at the end of September, everything else will be available by the end of this month.  All but the Amfleet cars already are posted on the website.  Here are the Amfleets:

Dave - I'm not as strict on the Conrail time-period as you are, so I don't have any qualms running Amfleet II coaches.  At least they are in Phase III paint, finally, and the Bachmann cars can be retired.

speaking of which, would one of the many small model companies make a HEP doghouse to modify the stock kato unit?

I wonder if the Amtrak and commuter sets are bringing new people into N scale?   

It would seem as if the market for regional commuter stuff would be limited.

Can't say that I am, but I will run them behind Blackjack 4935.    The only black Gs I'll be running will have CR stencils on their noses.

The phase III's are cool. Now if Kato would do an ex El Cap lounge in Amtrak PH. III--that would be awesome. Or- release them seperately.

Is it just me, or has Kato slipped with their paint seperation lines on locomotives? While those F40's are gorgeous, the separation lines between the black and silver are horrendous. Same problems with the F-3/7's.

I see that, too.  Hope it doesn't translate to the Amtoobs.  I guess that it's a good thing that my F40PHs are from a former run (not to mention they fit the mid-eighties era better).  Remember the registration problem on the Bicentennial GG1?

Hmmm, to take the F40 I have and turn it into a Cabbage, or get this one, and do it to it instead....less cutting, drilling, etc, or go with what's on hand....
