This helps explain why there are so many cars from the 50's - 70's on a modern layout. This shop has restored quite a few cars for the residents of my towns.

Bart, where'd you find that red Mustang in the back? Next to the Bachmann Cougar? It looks plastic. But I've never seen an N scale plastic Mustang. How could I possibly have missed such a gem?

I absolutely LOVE the Trek homage.  Whenever I get moving on the layout again and start working on downtown Bridgeport, I think I'm going to have a time-traveling Kirk and Spock standing in some back alley between buildings.

Stop stealing my easter eggs!!!! I had the same idea for easter eggs all over the future layout.

I'm already planning to put a 1960s blue Police Call Box on my UK themed N-Trak module  :D ...  :P
I think a Tardis is going to find its way into most every scene i do...

But first i need to re-vamp my HCD layout...

I'm probably going to rip up all the atlas code 80 and sell the remotely controlled switches at either a train show or on either here or the bay as a lot. Some of the trackwork i put in is a little tight on the curves so i'll just save the flex for more N-Trak modules in the future...

Von Ryan,
Will that be a scratch build TARDIS< or do you have a supplier in mind?  I want one too . . .

You would be correct :)

Neat! It's interesting to see the different things people do and the directions they go with essentially the same starting point.

I know Langley Models make 1960s police call boxes, and on Shapeways there's one.
But i'm most likely going to go with Langley's cast whitemetal one since its an actual 1960s police call box. Albeit the casting detail is somewhat lacking but they can usually be had on the UK bay for relatively cheap.

My layout is finally getting to the stage where it looks somewhat completed. Wanted to share a few photos with everyone. Still a lot of little details to add, but from a distance it gives the impression of being done.

We already have some eager Star Trek fans getting ready for the next movie which opens in May 2013. They are really early!

This gave me a chuckle  :D

You mean, you've never seen one of those future locomotives with warp nacelles to give it added horsepower?

It sounded like a good idea at the time... too bad the caboose wasn't in on the plan.

Thanks Eric , Jason , Chris , Vince , and Steve . It didn't come out as good as I had hoped for . On steamers I don't prime before I paint , perhaps I should , and as a result surface imperfections abound . Jason I am really looking forward to that FEF , thanks .

The red Mustang goes way back - I think I got this in the early 70's when I was just starting out with N Gauge. Not exactly the most detailed car - but a little paint and detailing helps a lot.  I can't remember who made it. On the bottom of the car, there is a triangle with some letters in it - an R on top and two M's below it. Not sure if that means anything or not.

Whoever made these also sold full size Ford sedans and station wagons. I have seen them included with some of the auto racks from that era. Spookshow has an article about them with a picture here: http://www.visi.com/~spookshow/freight/arnoldrack.html.  Mine have tinted clear green plastic inserts for the windows.

Someone mentioned WillModels who has a store on the auction site. I see that he does offer a 65 Mustang Hardtop. The quality of his cars is fantastic. I have several of his kits and would strongly recommend them. Here is a photo of a PT Cruiser I made from one his kits.

Thanks,
Bart

The 50's era cars would work good for Cuba today . What do they grow down there ? Bananas , cane , tobacco , and baseball players . Narrow gauge steam . Pastel painted old stores . Then there is that Naval Base . Could be a interesting layout . The have some of these modern diesels from China , maybe they can be gotten  .

Thanks Bart. I know about the wagons & sedans you mentioned (and Spookshow pictured). I have a few dozen of those. And there is what looks like a very generic fastback Mustang type included with them. (Along with what looks like a Cadillac ambulance.) But they are clearly no where near as detailed as what you have. And I'm pretty sure no amount of painting or detailing that I am capable of would help any.  :D

Just returned from Medford, where this:

took Third Place. Third Place? you ask. It was a popular vote, so a large number of non-modelers were voting on the big bright shiny stuff. Some of the convention organizers came to me later and expressed their regrets that it was a popular vote, as they felt it should have been first. As they say, "Oh, well."
