BOK, thanks for that, I’ll stand corrected. I lived near the Knowlton Bridge on Lake DuBay for almost 38 years (1976 to 2014)and before the Hwy and bridges were replaced that line was terrible (Valley Sub), I had been told, obliviously incorrectly, that Point to FDL was also in bad shape before WC got it.

Thanks for upgrading my info
Tom

Not a problem, Tom.

Folks outside of the railroad often make comments about  trains, track and facilities based on their limited knowledge and here say which often is mis-guided.

Living on the former Milwaukee's Valley line you probably had a better idea of the track conditions than I because prior to the Soo acquiring it I didn't pay alot of attention to it. However, after we aquired the Milwaukee I was part of team who hi-railed most of the acquired Milwaukee including the Valley and I later worked the line a few times as an trainmaster/engineer for the WC. We had been told by the Milwaukee officals selling the road, that the Valley line, being one of the most profitable pieces of it (beause of all the paper mills) and that they had spent what money available to keep it in the best shape ...which outside of a bit of tie re-newal and some additional ballast/surfacing was true.

The Soo's main line was in excellent shape, prior to acquiring the Milwaukee and diverting all former Chicago traffic off it to the Milwaukee's it was the only Soo main line. There was only two years of less maintenanceon the Soo main, between the time of the Milwaukee acquisition and the sale of Lakes States so it was still in excellent shape.

Just some idle information to help clarify things.

Its going to be difficult for me to catch both talks since they are back to back. I'm not sure I want to, nor is it fair to my layout partner,  to leave our layout for two hours since there is really only the two of us to attend to it. (Of Course I'm full of it since I've been known to take some lengthy shopping trips during the show.)

I'll presume then that its likely the "Wisconsin Central looks westward" talk that covers Neenah to Stevens Point area. eh? We'll see what I can do. The timing is not great since they occur during the first couple hours of opening day. Thanks for the suggestion.

Nice!  I enjoyed the WC regional railroad story while it lasted.

Yeah, I know, no train. Just some pictures to motivate me as I get to work downstairs. (Yeesh, I need to dust off my river.)

Another couple layout projects as well, to begin when it gets a bit warmer outside. The sun is slowly rising on the ecliptic, so hope "springs" eternal.   ;)
