Finished installing all the turnouts and Bullfrogs on the Free-moN staging yard, wired everything up, and so it was time, of course, to run some trains:


Because I made both ends of the two yard sections Free-moN standard endplates, I'm able to split the yard into two stub-end yards.
Attaching an extension on both ends allows for a runaround.

Just need to install a turntable and the machine shop, and it'll be time to paint, ballast & scenic.

Those pantographs rock!  Nice work...

This week I worked on a couple of scenes: Rosebery and Nelson Diesel House.





I also built, painted and weathered 5 small Geoff Gooderham Resin structures.  Two were "snowed" and installed at Farron and the others scattered around the layout.  Now I need to get to a few octagonal water tanks!

Well, I was getting all set to put the finishing touches on a Rock Island heavyweight RPO when I accidentally grabbed a can of white paint instead of clearcoat...  :facepalm:

So, ugh, see you tomorrow  (if I don't do anything even stupider in the interim) :x

As each of the Red Caboose auto racks was released, I checked the modern AAR code for the specific prototype of each acquired model in the ORER and modified the roof/ends accordingly.  Doing so eliminates the cookie-cutter look of having stock multiples of the same model with different paint schemes.  The ORER specifies door and roof types as well as the number of decks and the type of enclosure.

Milwaukee Road rack with 3/4-height clam shell doors.  This one was easy.  A Dremel to cut the doors at the rivet line, and a donor spare roof to square off the ends, with those end edges thinned out to give a better approximation of a sheet metal roof.  The doors were cemented in place.  Interior is painted white, as I do on all my racks.  The couplers were moved in after this photo.

My other hobbies include Classic Cars and WWII Living History. Over the past month and a half I've been prepping my '43 Ford GPW for "the big show", the Mid Atlantic Air Museum's WWII Weekend in Reading PA where they bring in about 40+ airplanes of WWII Vintage. Unfortunately my work was for naught as urgent issues cropped up at the job, but below is the culmination of work of the past 6 weeks that has kept me from trains, this is a "motorpool" restoration as this is the "fun jeep" and not a trailer queen:

I got an email from MB Klein saying my Micro-Trains #1025 body mount couplers won't arrive until Monday, so my weekend is shot. :D

Still loafing, avoiding the train room.  Started peeling the skins off a couple of decoder jobs, though.
I think the problem is that I don't like listening to ball games when the Orioles are in a steep nose dive, so there's no reason to sit at the work bench...

So....  it's been a month since the Atlas forum shut down.  Have to say I really like this one better!  Good to see other hobbies make an appearance on a weekend update too.  (nice jeep!)

I'm on a slight timeout from model railroading at the moment, but getting ready for a trip on the Cal Zephyr from Naperville, IL to Glenwood Springs next week.  Going with my son to explore Denver, Colo Springs, and the Rockies in that area for a week and then back home on the CZ.  And of course the trip will include the Georgetown Loop, the Royal Gorge train ride, and some railfanning near the big ten loops and along the joint line.

I still can't believe the Atlas forum is gone. I went and joined three or four other forums to take up the slack, but they don't have much traffic, so I rarely go there anymore.
