OK, I managed to finish my RPO do-over without accidentally cutting off any limbs, so the Rock Island "spine line" steam-era passenger train project moves on... Thus far I've rostered motive power and head-end cars for either the Mid-Continent Special or the Short Line Express (depending on what foobie fantasy I'm in the mood for) -

I got the gold "heavyweight" decals from Oddball Decals. Not Microscale quality, but the only game in town that I know of.

I just got back from on operating session on a local layout. The gentleman who owns the layout basically had told the group it would come down in June as he was going to sell the house. However, he talked to a few realtors who emphatically told him now was no the time to sell his house. What did come of it was a whole bunch of pics and videos of the layout. Here are two from the iPhone car as it travels across one of the lines on the layout:

Part 1 Bayview to Clairmont, NJ - This is the CL&W and was the original line of the layout.

Part 2 - Tannersville to Sayre - Addition after the article on the CL&W in Model Railroader July, 2003. He will be adding from Sayre to Buffalo instead of moving, I believe a passenger terminal and a power plant for the coal.

I think I'm in a few shots, but a lot of this was done before the last session started and they were running the car around today and they were even setting up the Wii Throttle and Engine Driver to use,

After a few practice runs, I finally finished a Fast Tracks turnout that I'm reasonably happy with,



Only several dozen left to go....      One thing that surprised me when I first got the templates was how much longer the FT #10 is than the corresponding Atlas #10.  I think my plan will accommodate this ok, but time will tell.

On another front, I had the privilege of visiting two nearby HO layouts that were both magnificent.  The nominal purpose was to test drive some non-Digitrax DCC systems to see how the ergonomics compare before I buy.  But it was very inspirational overall.  Thanks to Mark Dance for facilitating the visits.

Congrats on the turnout build.  I am looking forward to putting the first ones I built into service shortly.

Ed and Eric slipped across the great waters on Sunday to help me bring order out of the chaos in my operating scheme.  Cars sorted, cards match up, orphans identified.  Still much to do, but at least we're at a starting point.

Brian, that BN part car looks awesome. (They all look really great) I love the way you have the scratches on it, and the fade coat.

And thanks Gary for posting the turnout, wasn't looking at building turnouts, buuuuuut man I bet that operates worlds better then Atlas #10s (I have a few I've used in some diorama’s and trains track like crap over them.) Pretty soon getting ready to release some layout planning idea's to fine tune prior to ground breaking.
