Just as an experiment, I tried doing this by slipping a piece of waxed paper between the shell and the window glass just to see what it would like like,

I like the results and may just go with it .... certainly was easy.

I considering simulating the etched glass.  If I decide not to, I'll use frosted photo gel on the inside face of the glass as I have done on past models.

Not the matte finish 3M stuff that usually comes in the 3/4" width. It stays clear forever, as some files I have from 40 years ago attest. You're thinking about the regular gloss-finish 1/2" tape, and especially the non-3M cheap stuff. That'll yellow if you bloomin' breath on it.

Got the new Bluford Reading cars (thanks Craig!) and added (after some minor sanding to allow for a proper fit) some Hays Brothers loads (thanks Bill!)

Our current head of locomotives at BNSF is about as big a foamer as they come.  He even personally owns a heritage locomotive ( http://www.gn441.com/ ).  And if he can't get a heritage plan in place (and he can't, I was talking to him about it back in late March) I don't think anyone can.

I think our biggest problem at BNSF is that so many of our locomotives are still painted in "heritage" colors.  Warbonnets would be cool, especially leading a business car train, but would hardly be distinct from the several hundred units we continue to run today that remain in SF colors (except they'd be cleaner).

And unlike NS, or even UP, we don't have nearly the heritage of many, colorful paint schemes to choose from.  ATSF was Warbonnet forever, and we still have hundreds painted that way, and prior to that there was nothing of note.  The last thing we need is to bring back Kodachrome.  That leaves Yellowbonnet; again we have more than a few still remaining and it wasn't particularly attractive to begin with.  BN was Cascade or Executive for 30 years, and we still have many hundreds painted either of those ways.  BN's predecessors had fairly uninteresting schemes, barring Big Sky Blue which, yes, would be awesom.  The GN Orange/Green would just look like BNSF's original Heritage.  And NP was all-around pretty blah.  Frisco would be kinda neat.  Beyond that we gotta dig pretty deep to get predecessor roads.

In a railroad of all-black units, something with some color certainly sticks out, and is an obvious celebration of heritage.  For the BNSF though, I think that the aptly named "Heritage" scheme is about as good a celebration as you're going to get.  They're so relatively colorful (for better or worse) that everything sans BSB is going to just look so unimpressive, which isn't the reason one does it.  I wouldn't be surprised if the UP found themselves in that exact same dilemma, hence the 'interpretations' that we got for their heritage execution

The one thing I did not have was the proper font for the Great Northern.  I know what it is, but was to cheap to pay the money for the files....

Hyperion, opinions aside, there are quite a few schemes that could be done:
CB&Q: Blackbird, Chinese Red, Hockey stick Green, Silver, grayback (the White Fs)
GN: 2 orange and greens, Big sky Blue
SLSF (frisco): Black and Yellow, Red and White
NP: Yellow and black, and Two-tone Green
SP&S: Pullman Green (almost black) and yellow
BN: Cascade green, white face, 3 tiger stripes (black and orange, white and orange, and just white stripes), Hockey Stick (applied to Es and some Fs), and Executive
ATSF: Zebra stripe, pinstripe, Bluebonnet (blue instead of red warbonnet), Yellowbonnet (yellow instead of red warbonnet), Warbonnet, Superfleet, Kodachrome, freight warbonnet and catwhisker

So that a total of 29 different schemes, and that may be missing a few and I forget who the ATSF drew into it's system.

Granted there are quite a few still in the ATSF and BN, so maybe it could be done in the future. Gratned there may only be 7 or so.

One more shot of the nose.  The guy that I did this for didn't want sunshades or sub-lettering for the BNSF (I tried...  ).  His Dad is a huge GN fan and has me painting everything he can get his hands on into Big Sky Blue.  This was a one off that I modified from a picture he found on the internet.

Brian , that turned out to be a clean , crisp , and striking . Too bad the railroads and other businesses in a cost saving move dumb down their paint schemes today .

This is one company that never took the dumbed down route , in fact I have never seen one dirty , never ever .

My first post over this way!  I worked on a little diorama to shoot some pictures on outside.  I'm currently working on a custom painted GP7, still need to add some weathering and a couple more detail parts to it.  Also, I finished up a covered hopper as I have been in a weathering mood lately.  Enjoy!
